Topic: RE: CPAP Machine Question
Hello Ron,

Not sure what and how things are covered under Canadian health coverage but here in the States, under my health insurance, I rented the CPAP until the rental equaled the entire cost of it and then it was mine.

Here is a link to the OH website that shows that someone posted their CPAP for sale. Hope this helps.

Topic: CPAP Machine Question
I am a little embarrresed to ask this question, but umm.. do they sell used CPAP machines?  I was stunned when I seen the cost of them. I think once the surgery is done and I lose the some of the weight- my sleep apnea will hopfully not be an issue.

Do they rent them?

Thanks,

R

Topic: RE: Mask with no Plastic or Silicone?

Hi Holly,
You might try the sleep weaver mask it is a cloth mask, They just ordered me one and it will make my 3rd mask in 5 weeks.  I can't wear the plastic or silicone either.  I will let you know when I get mine they called fri and said it would be here in 10 days.

Topic: Got my CPAP
Hi all,

Just wanted to let you know that I now have my CPAP at home and I used it last night and wow was that some great sleep. I have noticed that I toss and turn with it and I didn't do that before I had it...maybe I just have to get use to it or something.

I've had my CPAP for a year and still do the same thing.  Some nights I've falled asleep mid-way in putting my mask on.  I'll wake up in the middle of the night with my mask in my hand.

Yes, I did after my surgery on June 4, 2009.  Took my machine in and they decreased the air flow and it's much better now.

Hi Jill
I started using  a CPAP about 3 weeks now.  I have been through 2 mask so far. first the nasal pillow I felt like my nose was stopped up all night.  Second one a full face mask and it is braking my nose out.  Did some research on the web and found on that is called a sleepweaver cloth nasal mask.  I'm going to check with the company I get my supplies from and see if I can try it.
Love the CPAPI'm sleeping so much better but can't go around with a rash on my nose. I will keep you posted.

Topic: RE: CPAP Troubles
I think everyone goes through episodes like that, I know I did and sometimes still do even after using my mask for over 10 years.  I started out with severe apnea and even had to sleep with oxygen but since losing weight...even what I lost before surgery...my apnea has improved 100%. I no longer require oxygen and my settings come WAYYY down.....    There are some nights that I wake up, without my mask on and it's put neatly back on my shelf where I store it when I'm not using it...LOL....I don't know how I do that either!   I think your body will adjust, it will take some time though and happen less and less as time goes by. The important thing is, is that you're being treated for it and you'll reap the benefits of getting a good nights sleep.  I don't have any suggestions though, not sure there is anything we can do besides maybe some glue?  LOL  Kidding of course.  Anyhow, good luck and hang in there....it will work out!   :-)

Topic: CPAP Troubles
Hello all. I'm new to this board. I found out I had sleep apnea a little over a month ago and have had my CPAP for about a month now. The 1st few nights were just as the sleep therapist predicted. I got through about half the night and then had to take the mask off. After about a week I was able to make it throught the whole night with it on. Then all of a sudden one morning I woke up and somehow the mask was off of me and put neatly away on the stand by my bed where I keep it at. Now I'm coming to realize that at least every other night I'm taking my mask off in the middle of the night without even knowing it. I have no recollection of taking it off. Has anyone else had this issue or have any suggestions as to what I can do to keep myself from taking it off? Thanks!

Topic: RE: Help - How to heal a sore from the nasal mask?
I've used nasal pillows for 16 yrs.  An occasional zit or sore spot is bound to develop once in a while inside the nostril.

I would suggest a light coat /small drop of neosporin or triple antibiotic ointment each night and morning for a few days on the sore spot.  By the 3rd or 4th day it should clear up.  Vaseline won't hurt it either, but it takes longer to heal im my experience.  Some neosporin comes with pain relief built in - it can help ease the irritation if it's bad.
