Topic: RE: Just got BiPap machine today
They do take a while to get used to. I remember my cheekbones hurt too and I had sores on my nose. Wear a bandaid over the sore place until it heals - that really helped me. I mean a bandaid at night - I didn't wear it during the day, didn't want to look like a freak. LOL
It takes a while to get the adjusting right, etc. I've had mine for 9 months now and I think I adjust it in my sleep now when it leaks, I barely remember it.
Good luck! I'm hoping to get rid of mine after surgery too though. :)

I got a new machine without an alarm and that is wonderful!. However I am still having trouble with the mask - i have a sore on the bridge of my nose and my cheekbones hurt - sigh. I tried the full face mask last night but that kept leaking air. I have to get the nose to fit better. I am sure there must be a way.
Topic: RE: Post Surgery C-Pap Changes
My doctor recommended that every time I lose 10% of my body weight, that I have another sleep study to make any changes in my CPAP levels. Diana
Topic: RE: going for the test in a couple of weeks
When I went for my test, I had to bring toiletries (you want to have some soap to wash off the goop) and I brought my own comfy pillow. Expect the tech to hook about 16 wires to your body. Some on the legs, some on the chest area, most on your head. If you are a sleeper that uses the entire bed (like me, I sleep all over a queen sized bed.) expect to have restrictions in movement. Not sure how they would react. I did mine in the day time while the office was still open. That made things interesting. I kept waking up more than usual but I was not given a "mild" sedative to help me sleep.
Topic: RE: dreading getting a cpap machine
they brought my cpap machine today...I have to have a full face mask because I guess I am a "mouth" breather, and the nose mask wont work for me....I am not going to try it until Friday nite, when I have the time and not have to worry about being up all nite and going to work. We will see how the weekend goes....thanks everyone for your support and suggestions....I will let you know how I am doing...!!!!!
Take care,
Betty

Topic: Post Surgery C-Pap Changes
When did you know that it was time to adjust or remove your C-Pap? Did you go back for another sleep study? Did you have symptoms? What kind?
It feels like mine is too strong now - and I notice that I have started opening my mouth after 6 years on the C-Pap, but I am also having a lot of day-time sleepiness now - much more that I have ever had since originally getting my C-Pap.
I am a little over three months post surgery and have lost 65 lbs. Do I need to talk to my doctor about another sleep study or wait a few months.

Topic: going for the test in a couple of weeks
I will be going for my sleep test in a couple of weeks, and would like to know what to expect.
All they said was where to go, bring my pyjamas and toiletteries and also pillow if I wanted.
Not quite sure what to expect and afraid of not being able to sleep.
What do they do for the test?
How would they react if I cannot sleep?

I am so glad you persisted and got the right one.
I had a great nite last nite! The apnea alarm went off once at 4 am but i went back to sleep and slept til almost 8am! A full nite's sleep - I am thrilled!
The mask the tech brought is full face but I have been using the gel nose one that the sleep center gave me and it seems to be fine now that i am getting used to it.
I see it only getting better and I am so appreciative of all the info and support I have had while adjusting!
Thank you all!
Maggie

I will hope for you that the findings are good. They did that to me too the tch didnt see anything so bad, but the doctor reviewed it and it was. SO I had to go back for a second nights tests with the cpap.. Sometimes I think they do that on purpose to make more money. What ever the insurance will pay for. Only last time my insurance didnt pay and I am still trying to pay off that hospital bill still owe over $2000 on it.
I will keep you in my thoughts that you won't have to get a cpap machine. Let me know what you find out.
