Topic: RE: Please help me adjust to the Cpap machine

My CPAP had an incline setting...it starts off at a low air pressure and slowly builds up, over a 20 minute period to the pressure that you require.  I used that to get used to my CPAP.  As far as sdjusting to the mask...it just takes time.

Hey everybody!
It turns out I had sleep apnea. The doctor said that the sore throat was a big neon flashing 'Warning' sign.
I lost weight and it went away! I had a sleep study done in May and another one in August. As of August, no more apnea!!!

hi all...just a quick update..... I switched to a nasal pillow mask...1st nite   had the mask on 4 hrs...didn't sleep, took it off and only got about 2 hours sleep....
last nite  I sat in the recliner with it on from about 8-midnite....After working all day, I was completely exhausted.   I actually dozed off for about an hour! I took it back to bed and even though I did wake up a lot, I managed to keep it on til about 5am and needed a break....my nose was getting sore....we will see how tonight goes...
big hugs,
Betty

 Hi,
Just wondering if you are using a c-pap machine or have you had a sleep study?
I know when I don['t use my machine I wake up because I can't breathe. actually I am not breathing and the body wakes up. The dry mouth is probably because you are sleeping with your mouth open and snoring Weill make the throat sore. Just some suggestions. hope it helps.  doodlesll

Jules,  I have problems with claustrophobia as well so I totally understand where you're coming from.  I too had serious problems with the air pressure.  I felt like I was suffocating!  It was horrible!

My doctor did two things:  1.  Put me on Trazadone which is an anti-anxiety medication and also a sleep aid, and 2. changed the pressure in my cpap so that it increases gradually during the first 10 minutes I have it on at night.  With the pressure increasing gradually, I don't even notice it and no longer get that feeling of suffocation.

And the difference the cpap has made in my life is AMAZING!  I never would have believed it.

Good luck!

Topic: apnea without snoring??

Hi everyone. I'm new here and my PCP is thinking of sending me for sleep studies. I do not snore I'm not in denial my dh confirmed this. hehe!! So has anyone here ever been diagnosed with apnea without being a snorer? I do not sleep well toss and turn and wake up several times. She had me taking Ambien this week to see if that helps but I still wake up during the night! Just wondering!! Thanks for any help!

Topic: RE: New to site and due to have surgery in 5 weeks
hi there... Do you already have a machine? My surgeon requires 160-200 hours on the cpap before surgery,  I am under the gun so to speak because I just got my machine. I am hoping to have enough time logged in. I am struggling, so I am sort of a rookie at it...
If you have questions, I am sure someone can answer it for you....take care and good luck with your surgery!
hugs
Betty

May I ask which insurance you have?

I'm hoping Medicare doesn't do the same to me..
