Topic: 22 years old and diagnosed with sleep apnea.....
 WOW. what a wakeup call for me.....  my weight has begun to affect my health.  i cant believe im only 22 and i have sleep apnea. in some ways i feel like i have failed myself... failed to keep myself healthy for my son and for abusing the gift god has given me (my body).

The next step is the getting the CPAP.. but not until after my surgery because my surgery is on tuesday. i really really really hope that the weight loss resolves the sleep apnea.. but i know that isnt necesaarily going to happen.

Wear the CPAP! I can't sleep without mine, I even take it with me when I travel, and when I camp! We just put attach an extension cord to it. (I camp in a campground with electricity).

FYI - I have lost 105 pounds and am nearly at goal, and my sleep apnea has not resolved. Do not believe that losing weight will automatically resolve your sleep apnea.

I feel so much better when I sleep with my CPAP. I am also in a new relationship, and he is fine with the CPAP. He loves me, and having a CPAP is part of the package that comes with me. We joke about it, because in addition to my mask, I have to wear a chin strap to keep my mouth shut when I sleep. He calls me Hannibal Lector!

Seriously, once you get used to it, it just becomes part of your routine. And you will feel a million times better.

I just googled "changing cpap pressure" and looked for directions that matched my machine model.  It was easy :)

Hi;
I'm in the same boat as you were.  Having a hard time sleeping with all that air being pushed in.  Where did you get the directions to lower your setting?  I've lost over 90 lbs and have another 60 to go to my goal.  I'm hoping I will be able to give up my machine by then.

Make sure to sleep on your back during your testing.

Topic: Headaches (just ranting)
I had Rny on 12-8-09. Before that I used my cpap faithfully for 5 years. I never had any problems. I loved my cpap, it lulled me to sleep at night. Then after surgery I can't keep my cpap on for more than 10 minutes. Even that long causes headaches that last for hours. Now it feels like I have too much air blowing in my nose and I am swallowing air. I asked my doc recently if he would send in a referral for me to get tested again. He told me to wait until my weight stabilizes and until then wean myself off the cpap. So I stopped using it. My cpap is currently at a 6, but I need it lowered. Someone from the cpap company has to come out and do it, but won't without a referral from the sleep specialist. Did anyone else get headaches from their cpap after surgery? I miss my cpap, but don't miss the headaches.
I am wonderful! I like me.

Hey,

I actually ended up going with the cpap machine because after a lot of reading, the dental appliance was not as effective as the cpap to treat sleep apnea. Insurance approved both but I ended up with the better more effective option.

So - I'm curious - did you go with the dental appliance or the machine?

I still have SA - and while my auto-pap machine is set on the lowest setting - I'm struggling with keeping it on at night.   I saw an article recently on a dental appliance and am interested in hearing if people like it.

If it makes you feel any better - I'm down 135 pounds - but apparently still have the apnea.  (It's not ALWAYS weight related - sometimes it's just weight aggravated...)

Hope your tummy tuck went well... I didn't think that I'd want plastics - but feeling the urge more and more to take care of the tummy and the skin on the thighs.
