Are you sure his pressure is accurate or his mask fits good?  They only time I feel like I'm suffocating is if my mask loses suction and I therefore have an episode and stop breathing.  I also sleep with my mouth open and need a nose/mouth mask, the nasal one was worthless.  THey do offer a mouth sling to keep it closed, but I felt like my head was in a vice when wearing it.

The bill for my CPAP and accessories ie mask, filters, and hose came to $2500 but my insurance covered it.

Have you lost alot of weight.  I feel the same way about the pressure being too much.  I was told to come in for another sleep study if I gained or lost 25lbs. Because it can effect your pressure and mask fit.   But my insurance won't cover another one in less than a year.

I have been using the CPAP machine since 2006 with excellent results, but lately, I feel like I can't
take so much pressure. I really don't know what is the pressure in my machine. It says manu then
numbers came out like 2001-4000 ft, then there is the ramping that goes from 5 to 20 min.
Can someone explain to me all this?

Thanks, Chabela

Hi Stephie,

I have a cat and I have using the machine since 4 years ago. My cat never try to play or chew the hose.
I would recommend to give the cat an old hose to chew.

My husband has mild SA and uses a CPAP every night and has for over a year.

As far as costs, our insurance covers the rental. I found a site that sells them and the range is huge.  (http://www.cpapsupplyusa.com/CPAP-Departments/CPAP-and-BiPAP-Machines/Auto-CPAP-Machines.aspx)  The type we both have are the automatic ones but our models have been discontinued according to this website.

Hi Michelle-

I was diagnosed with moderate sleep apnea and has been on the CPAP for about 6 weeks. It take sometime to get use to. When you get yours ask them for the model with a heater and humidfier. It's prevents you from drying out at night.

I am awaiting surgery and I hope that losing weight will cure my sleep apnea as well.

God Bless,

Hi Michelie,

I have used a CPAP machine for seven years.  Once you are used to it, you wonder how you ever did without it.  Have an ear, nose, and throat doctor exam you.  He will be able to tell you if losing weight will resolve your problem, or if you need to be a lifetime user.  I know the CPAP gear is not very sexy, but it really does save lives.
