Topic: RE: Sleep Apnea... Pouch Blow Up?????
I was so relieved to see this post. I'm four days post op and home. I tried to sleep with my cpap last night and kept getting woke up with the feeling that my pouch was full of air and my tummy and insides gurgling like crazy. MY initial thought was that some of the air from my cpap (I'm set to 16) was leaking by and considering my pouch is the size of a human thumb right now it wouldn't take much to fill up to discomfort. I'm glad I'm not the only one.

Topic: RE: I DON'T WANT A CPAP MACHINE!!!!

After my sleep study diagnosed me with SA, I was so resistant to using a cpap machine the loaner sat collecting dust and until finally I returned it. Not too long ago I woke up to my guy shaking me in a desperate attempt to get me to breathe and I watched him so terrified in tears saying I stopped breathing(apnea) and my skin had turned blueish grey that moment changed my mind. I really thought because I only had mild SA it couldn't happen. I called the RT to start my CPAP therapy later that morning. I've adjusted to using cpap, waking up so refreshed. I've lost weight, sleep throughout the nite, no more buzz saw snoring, lowered my BP & cholest., my EKG has returned to normal. I never want my guy live that horror of a experience again. A real bonus is the energy I'm putting out now he just loves it. Honestly to me SA & Cpap therapy was the craziest idea when the Dr told me and I probaly felt just as passionate but since my event I'll now tell everyone to at least give it trial run. If its covered under insurance why not..

Sleep apnea is not only related to weight. It can also be caused by heredity and structure in the airway, which won't be changed by weight loss. Good luck.

Apparently I do have a mild caseof OSA. I can't remember what they said exactly about the numbers but "normal" is 5 and I'm a 7. I actually slept really well that night even though all of those wires were attached to me. During my first study I barely slept at all.

91% is the o2 cut off before they put you on oxygen - consistantly. o2 drops are not the only sign of apnea but one of the diagnostic criteria

they can't put you on a machine unless you have reached the diagnostic criteria of x number of episodes an hour. If they put you on a machine, you have OSA

repeating myself, but you might not see the reply - breathe right strips with menthol is what I use when conjested and humidity on the cpap saves me when I'm sick

Breathe right strips

also put the tubing under the covers with you, that keeps the condensation down

yes my insurace company paid for it... I have Aetna... I do have to tell you that it did take about 2 months to get it due to the back log of orders...but once I got it I have been beyond happy with it. Only people who use Cpap could possibly uinderstand that statement...I have not slept this well in many many years...
