Topic: Another CPAP Question
Ok I have slept with my CPAP machine for 2 nights now. I fall asleep right away as usual and the noise is not bothering me at all. I am still waking up several times during the night as I always have. I think I am sleeping with my mouth shut. I don't feel any different when I wake up then I ever do.
Am I doing something wrong or is just a matter of time for my body to accept the machine?
I am so looking forward to a good nights sleep.
Any help would be greatly apprceciated.
Thanks,
Alan

Topic: CPAP Machine
I have a Respironics CPAP machine with humidifier, that I got on 2/8/05. The mask they gave me is a Fisher & Paykel, the system is set on 14 (whatever that means),the problems I am experiencing are:
Cold droplets of water dripping under the mask (wakes me up)
Feeling of suffication when beginning treatment (already use a ramp system), and awaking during the night, which causes me to rip of the mask.
I like to sleep on my side and can't with this mask, it makes a high pitched hissing noise or blows air straight in my eyes.
I am tired of sleeping on my back. Is this a mask problem, or just something I need to get over?
Any suggestions would be helpful.

Lisa - I've also experienced a lightheadedness. Went for a procedure and the nurse asked if I was always hypotensive... 80/30?!?! She had used a too large cuff (I'm also a nurse) and after obtaining the proper size cuff the pressure was closer to 100/50, but I'm thinking the cpap has done that for me.
Are you aware that sleep apnea can cause hypertension? Maybe that is a factor in your symptoms. Be sure you're drinking plenty of water and get up slowly so you don't pass out.
Good luck with finding the issue - or adjusting to it.

I wonder why your hubby feels threatened by the machine? He is insecure on some level and might be afraid of something coming between you and he on one level or another. By keeping you tired - maybe he is keeping you to himself - you'll be too tired to be attractive to someone else.
Assure him of your love and demonstrate your undying love by improving your health. Wear the cpap - practice makes perfect! I've found that lifting the mask and letting it settle on my face again is a good way to adjust it. I also like the "ramp" feature. If yours has one and you've not been trying it, I would recommend that.
Good luck with the relationship. But, most of all, I wish you good health! Keep on breathing!

hey laurie i also have sleep apnea and had not had recouprative sleep since i became overweight, not to mention that i snore so loud that neither has anyone else... I stop breathing 34 times an hour when i sleep. sleep apnea is not only serious its deadly! those machines were developed to help keep us alive, and if your husband wants to keep you around awhile he should grow up and stop being so selfish. I hate my machine but am so afraid not to use it that i might not wake up in the morning. I have gotten up a couple of times to find that sometime in the middle of the night and took the mask off. I will be so glad to have surgery and hopefully be able to get rid of that thing, but for now it is my friend!

I am sorry that you are having this problem with your husband. Does he not understand that when you have sleep apnea, your oxygen levels get really low and that people have died from this? Is the problem related to your sex life? I mean, you can take the thing off for that!! Sleep apnea is not a slight problem and no one--no man is worth risking your own life just because something is inconvenient for him or makes him uncomfortable. I can understand why you feel hurt, this could be a matter of life and death. If you are not going to wear it when he is home, at least wear it after he leaves for work at midnight. Wearing it some is better than not wearing it at all!! Hope I didn't offend you--just concerned!! I hope it all works out and thanks for your reply to my post!!
