Beware the Statistics Quoters
Sleep study results were sleep apnea obstructed. No loss of oxygen and I don't stop breathing thank God. My primary sent me to an ENT to explore my options. They suggested taking out my massively huge tonsils. I should have known to leave well enough alone when then Dr and PA were at odds about if it would actually approve my sleep apnea.
Got them out a week ago. No biggie I thought everyone was a wimp for saying it's worse as an adult. *scoff scoff* I was doing fine until 2 days ago. My throat hurt on one side something terrible. Yesterday I bled out of my scab and vomited/coughed up blood in the E.R. for 2 hours. I got transferred to the hospital where my ENT doctor was doing rounds and he took me to the operating room to investigate and stop the leak.
Needless to say now I'm kinda surgery shy. I'm terrified of getting RNY done if clotting and bleeding are going to be one of my issues. Never had that happen before. I want it done so bad, to be "healthy" but I'm definitely scared about the risk.

Thanks. I think I can do the same thing as far as referring myself. So far my PCP seems to be open to doing whatever I feel I would like to do. I was thinking originally I would just wait until goal to have another study but maybe I need one now. I'm less than 10 lbs from my surgeons goal but I really would like to be midway in the normal BMI for my height which would be less than 20 lbs now. Maybe I'm close enough. I'd rather not have to spend more money on CPAP and supplies if they aren't needed. Fingers crossed!
Yeah from what I was told they will replace them after five years. My insurance will pay I believe up to 2500 max for equipment. I found my own doctor and referred myself because my PCP would not listen to me when I said I needed a new sleep study. I can do that with my insurance.
Thanks for sharing! I guess I should probably make another appointment with my doctor and see if she suggests doing the same. I'd love to eliminate my CPAP! It was a like miracle when I got it because I was so exhausted I was even having trouble making it to work on time and I have a 2 1/2 hour flexible window on when I can arrive. But, of course, it would be even better not to deal with it at all. My doctor had talked about ordering a APAP (automatic) but my insurance doesn't cover it until Feb or Mar 2014, after my existing CPAP is old enough.
Thanks again!
Hello,
I have lost 161 pounds so I had a new sleep study. I went from not breathing 136 times an hour to 18 times. He said if I get it down to between 5 to 10 no more CPAP. Anyways what he did was order me new cpap that actually senses what pressure I need that way as I lose it will adjust itself. We agreed that when I get down to 250 (I am 6 feet tall) he will do another study.

I have lost 116 lbs, and am down to 143 lbs. my CPAP settiing started out at 16 about 3 years ago. And I have to say it changed my life, I felt amazingly bette
r after one night
When I got to 145 I went to my sleep center and was told to try going without if for a couple of weeks and see how I felt.
Well I slept ok but I started feeling tired during the day again. So resumed using the machine again and felt better.
My Dr. did decrease my pressure to 12 two days ago, the first night I didn't sleep very well, but last night i slept well and feel fine today.
I have another appointment in April and I am going to request to be retested so I know where I really am.
I know there is no more fat up around my neck area so if I still have to wear it so be it. It is annoying to need it, but I am so happy with my new self that it is a minor thing for me right now.
Just remember, plenty of thin people have sleep apnea, it is just the way your anatomy is put together.
I have lost 121lbs and will be having a study done in January. They lowered my pressure twice so I am down to 8 now. No rush for me, as I had a cardiac arrest due to undiagnosed SA.
take your time, I know cpap isn't fun but it can save your life.
