Topic: Newbie asking for sleep apnea quiz!!!!!!
Hi Everyone,
My name is Jennifer and I am new to this board. While reading some of the messages I noticed someone mentioned a link for taking a quiz to see if you may have sleep apnea or not. If anyone knows what this link may be could you please let me know. I think I may have sleep apnea but I want to have a little more information before I see my doctor.
Thanks so much!

Topic: RE: Days - Months C-PAP following surgery
Hi Betty! I was just what you felt like after the surgery? Did you have the throat surgery where they removed the uvula? I had that done and was wondering if you could give me any feedback. Thanks so much!

Topic: sleep apnea surgery uppp any one have this done?
Hi everyone! Has any one had this surgery done? I had it done on February 3, 2005. I am having throat problems which are slowly going away. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and did it go away?

Topic: RE: I think I have Sleep Apnea- What now?
I'm female,single, 44 yrs old and live in Tempe. (BMI 58.5?) --pre-op.
I have been using a cpap machine for about 3-4 yrs now...my family had always made fun of my loud snoring and I never felt rested no matter how much sleep I got. I also have a deviated septum in my nose. So imagine my surprise when my PCP suggested a sleep study and I failed miserably. It was ackward trying to sleep in a clinical setting and attached to machines. But despite that...once I fell asleep with the cpap machine I was amazed how alert and awake I felt on only about 3 hours of deep sleep during the sleep study!! It took me awhile to find a mask I could use...for me the nasal pillows were what finally worked for me. I developed sores and numbness from the original two masks...and it took awhile (my niece called it my GONZO --from Sesame Street mask!) but once I got the nasal pillows; I can't even take a nap without using the machine. I was amazed how much of a difference getting adequate sleep makes!! The noise is like a "white noise" for me. I am hoping though to sleep without a cpap machine at some point post-surgery. I am self-conscious about sleeping with anyone else in my bed (like a b/f) with the machine...since I don't fiind it to be an attractive look....but then again stopping breathing and heavy duty snoring isn't that attractive either? wink.
I agree with other posters...that you should take it seriously and get it checked out before wls. My PCP referred me to a pulmatologist and I did a sleep study at a sleep center where 1/2 the night I slept without it and the 2nd 1/2 with the cpap machine---huge difference! I also know that I will probably have to gradually reduce my cpap use as I lose wgt since my Pulmatologist wants to recheck me with another sleep study when I have lost 50 pds.
Topic: I'm sleepin' good now
Ok everyone. I'm sorry I left you all hanging. You can look down to my last post in Feb. and see what was going on, but the gist is that my DH hates my cpap machine. He was making very rude comments and pulling on my tubing just to irratate me. It worked, and I stopped using the machine......... I know, I know...........dumb move there Laurie!!! But that is what I did. For a month I went without it. He never said a word!!!! NOTHING! By the third week I was so tired that I was having to take a nap in the afternoon. I just couldn't force myself to stay awake.
After much evaluation, I know that our relationship is in the garbage can. He "should" be wanting me to wear it. He "should" be waking me up in the night (when I take it off in my sleep). He "should" love me enough to want my health to be a priority and not an inconvience!!!!!!
So, I went back to my cpap!! YUCK - the first two weeks really sucked. Every morning I'd wake up with the darn thing off. I don't remember taking it off or shuting off the machine. But I kept trying, and wore it each and every day. For the past two days I've kept it on all night, and have slept better then I have in years!!! I feel so good, so rested, it's wonderful!!!
I am loving my machine now!!!!!!! And I absolutely REFUSE to not use it at night!!!! My kids have asked me about it, and I tell them that I use it so I can breathe at night. If I didn't I could die. I want them to understand that it is serious too!!
Thanks everyone for your emails and concern. I'm over it now!! He's not but that's not my problem. I'm so glad that you all are here to give me a kick in the pants when I need it!!!!!
Topic: Ci-Pap vs Bi-Pap
I urge all to investigate bi pap instead of c-pap, it cost more, but provides a smother pressure ballance for sleeepiing. emphsis to your doctor that the insurance company wants to buy u the best, you deserve the best, and want the best. and dont forget the heated humidifier. come winter it does matter.
Topic: Got sleep apnea-See a Ear/Nose specialist.
reading several post,i have not seen one reference to anyone being examined by a ear/nose guy, before i could tolerate,or like my bi-pap machine, i required a nose straightening, and a uvala plasty, no big deal but the mach was much better tolerated,
Topic: RE: Thanks and one more quesiton
Whats the problem, he gets up to go to work and you put on the mask?
or whats his problem, and if he cant handle the mach, hows is he to adj to the new you after you loose 50% of you wieght or more?
Ann Landers used to say "Are u better off with or with out em." u need that machine.
Topic: RE: I am so stupid!!! Have questions, please help!
I would also suggest a good exam by a ear/nose throat specialist. before i could tolerate bipap,,(much nicer than c-pap.) i had my divated septum straighten, and a uvala plasty, done. then the bipap worked like a charm.
saline nasal spray,"ocean" or a generic like equate will help the stuffy nose.
