Topic: Update newbie trying to get tested
Well, I waited until my cardiologist appointment as my primary care suggested. But he said my primary care needs to send my for the sleep test. (I didn't use to hate Doctors. But all this testing and stuff in order to prepare for WLS is making me begin to. ) Why all this run around!?!?
Anyway, so now I am not even going to call to make an appointment with my primary care...I am just going to ask for them to call for a referral for the sleep test. I have checked my coverage and it is covered. (and CPAP is too)
Honestly, I have 5 more Doctors appointments in the next month oops...actually if I get approval from my insurance for the WLS I will have 6 Dr. appointments. (all related to the WLS-- in case your wondering if I have just become some crazy hypochondriac )....I am not looking forward to adding to that list of appointments or co-pays. But I am honestly wanting relief from life of sleepiness.
Someone said to me at the cardiologist - man I don't know how anyone sleeps attached to that machine. I replied- I would sleep attached to the moon if I could just really SLEEP!
Anyway, I doubt anyone is out there dying for my update. But it really helps to vent for a bit.
Topic: My teeth hurt?
I got my CPAP machine a week ago and have been using it nightly (with the exception of pulling it off one night and not realizing it). When I wake up in the morning I am noticing that my teeth hurt. I wonder if now that I am sleeping with my mouth closed if I have picked up teeth grinding? Does anyone else wake up with a sore mouth?
Topic: RE: CPAP AND CAMPING???
Hi JoAnna
I have been dealing with sleep aepnea for several years now and I too love to go camping with my family. It use to be that I could go backpacking but with my added weight and the sleep aepnea, I am restricted to car camping. I have a c-pap machine that has an dc adapter that you can hook directly to a marine battery. The battery is heavy, but if you are going car camping it doesn't matter. The charge in the battery will last for about 20 hours using the machine, so you can get three days out of it if you don't sleep too long.
The name of my machine is a REM star Pro C-flex c-pap machine.
I hope that helps
Sincerely

Topic: RE: Split Study for Obstructive Sleep Apnea: What to Expect?
I don't think of myself as claustrophobic so didn't think I'd have a problem. Wrong. Took me two separate nights to get the study in and then a 3rd night for getting it set up. First night I didn't sleep at all. Longer I laid there wider awake I became. I do have problems with anxiety and when all hooked up I felt like a reluctant scuba diver! Second night took an Ambion (sleeping pill) still didn't help. Finally about 2am I turned the tv on and bam out I went. I think it gave me something else to focus on. At home I listen to instrumental CDs. That might have helped also. Take something like that along if you're used to it. All in all after it was said and done I got used to the machine and sleep much better with it. I no longer am sleepy during the day. I'm 7 wks post op and down almost 60 lbs. I feel like my settings need to be turned down as I wake up feeling like my mouth is being sucked inside out! Also, after surgery the machine was definitely a necessity for me. My oxygen levels were quite low for about 12 hours after surgery.
Topic: E-23
Any idea what an E-23 error on a CPAP machine is? Sometimes I get it, sometimes I don't and I can't tell what I'm doing different?

Topic: RE: Is your first sleep test always at home?
I dont know what my PCP is doing!!!! He thinks that he knows everything and that he has to refer me. The common problem that I have is that the only way insurance will pay for the visits to the sleep lab is if I am referrred by my PCP because M-Plan thinks that it isn't neccessary UNLESS your PCP thinks it is....so I have to commonly walk into my PCP's office and ask if I can be referred for different tests......its so stupid! But anyways, thanks for all the information....it really helps and you hae made me understand alot!
