Topic: RE: does sleep apnea cause other problems?
My doctors feel that sleep apnea and loss of oxygen causes the morning migraines I have upon waking. The only solution I have found so I can make it to work is set my alarm every day for 2:00 AM, take a migraine pill, try to sleep 2 more hours and get up at 4:00 AM for work.
I do not have a C Pap machine, it is still being researched.
As yet, I do not have the approval for gastric bypass surgery that will hopefully eliminate the sleep apnea.
Topic: RE: 3 Days on C-PAP Wonderful!
Hi JoAnna,
Thanks for the reply and support. =o)
Just wanted to let you know about the C-PAP machine. All newer models can be used for camping, it needs a 12 volt battery and adapter cord. These can be found at most Radio Shack stores, or contact the place where you got your C-PAP for local info into buying the adapter and battery, they themselves, may carry it.
Enjoy the summer camping... =o)
Good Luck on your upcoming surgery, my best of wishes for you to have a safe and speedy recovery. ~Penny
Topic: RE: New RNY & C-pap
Angela,
I have not had my surgery yet, but last week I vistied with my surgeon and he said I could no longer use mine as it was dangerous with the air pushing on the staple line in my stomach. But others have told me that they just usually have theirs adjusted to a lower pressure setting and still use it until they lose enough weight to not need any longer. I don't know what I am going to do about not using it at all, as I know I have severe sleep apenea, and don't want to have the surgery to die from the sleep apenea. So I am seeing a pulmonologist next week to discuss. Good luck---Debbie
Topic: RE: Cpap adjustment charge
Hi Lynn,
I use a CPAP too. My doctor instructed the med company as to what level it should be set at. To my knowledge there is no way I can do it myself. How did the med co. know what level to set at? Did the dr. contact them prior to your bringing it in? I know it is very important that the levels are correct for your needs so I hope they did it correctly.
As for the $70 charge for a couple of minutes work - what a rip? Sometimes I wonder how drs. offices, etc. can bill for the amounts they do and still sleep at night. The medical companies charge to you is just another example of how the health care industry in this country is out of control.
Five years ago I had a stroke and have had to use a CPAP since then. I am hoping that after my WLS I can get rid of it.
Blessings,
Pam
Topic: RE: Surgeon says not to use anymore???
I am still pre-op also, I will be having surgery in Late July. My surgeon says I should bring my cpap machine with me to the hospital. He says that in about 6 mos I will have to have anyother sleep study to see if I need it but I definately need it now. I have had mine for 5 mos and still cant get used to it. I fall asleep with it on but I wake up in the middle of the night and want to take it off. Good Luck. But I would definately get a second opinion.

I don't know what a bi-pap machine is either .. I use a cpap machine. But I was told that I had to use mine until I was re=tested and the sleep study said I didn't need it. I am 2 years post op.. I had a test 1 year post op and definitely still need it. I do plan to get tested again but I still snoor and other non fat people in my family have sleep apnea so I may be stuck with it. Also I don't know which surgery you are having. I had Rou en Y gastric bypass. I'd check it out more ... Good Luck..

Debbie,
First of all, good luck on your surgery and I wish you a speedy recovery! I have been told to bring my c-pap machine with me to my surgery. I am not sure what a bi-pap is and what the difference is between the two, but I think you should probably call your respiratory therapist and see what they say. Maybe also try calling another surgeon just to ask them their opinion too.
Topic: RE: Camping?
Shannon,
I posted the same question a few weeks back. I went camping 2 weeks ago without my machine and it sucked! I was extremely tired and was very short of breath when hiking. I did not have electricity available to me so I just suffered. It was only for 2 nights and I think my snoring kept the animals away lol. I really do not have an answer for you, but good luck and have fun.
Topic: RE: got c-pap machine
Claudia,
The c-pap does take some time to get use to. I have had mine for 4 months now and still sometimes I wake up with it off of me. But I can definitely tell a difference in my energy and I do feel like I am sleeping much better now. Before my c-pap, you could not drag me out of bed before noon on the weekends and I still felt tired. Now I automatically wake up between 7 and 9 am and feel rested. Give it a chance b/c I never thought I would get use to. I even hated it, but my hubby hammered me about it (mainly b/c he could not sleep with all of my snoring without it) every night, and that helped. I decided that if I was going to have this surgery to make me better, than I better do all I can before hand to make me a little healthier. Also, about the thick mucus, it might be from dehydration like the last poster said. I know I am dehydrated and the same thing is happening to me, so I am trying to drink more water to see if that helps. Good luck on your up and coming surgery and congrats to you! Oh, and wear your mask !

Penny, congrats on your upcoming special day! I wish you well and a speedy recovery! I know I am getting more sleep now and feel more energy throughout the day too, but I still have those nights when I take my mask off in the middle of the night without knowing it. I can't wait to have surgery and pray my sleep apnea will go away. I just can't get use to wearing it and it's been about 4 months. It is also hard to go camping and things like that b/c I can not bring it and we camp alot.
