Topic: Switched to Nasal Aire and hate it!!
I have been on CPAP for a year and a half, when I did my sleep study I used the Nasal Aire but insurance wasn't going to cover it. So I tried the regular mask that covers the nose only. I am allergic to it and my eyelids get swollen often. I decided I would go ahead and get the Nasal Aire and I tried it last night the first time. It was so loud with the air that comes out the front of the nose piece. I turn over alot and I couldn't get it stay on. It was the worst night sleep. I want to continue to use my old mask but it is so worn I have to tape it together to keep it from falling apart. I feel like I will have to pay for most of the nasal aire, because insurance pays some and then I won't be eligible for another mask for six months. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make the nasal aire work better for me?
Topic: CPap bother sleeping partner
Hi everyone,
I am set to take the sleep test next week. This might sound really silly but I am worried that if I have SA and they give me this machine, I will be too embarrassed to wear a mask to bed and have the machine running. Will it keep my hubby awake? Will I scare him to death with the mask?
It just sounds so embarrassing to have to be hooked up to a machine at night.
Topic: Need a cpap machine???
I have a Fisher & Paykel HC220 with Ambient Tracking CPAP machine. It's six months old. It has the "ramp mode" and a humidifier with an extra water container. It comes in a travel bag for easy carrying.
If interested email me privately and we can discuss terms.

Topic: RE: Need to have sleep apnea for ins. coverage!
If you snore, wake up with headaches most of the time and feel tired all of the time, most likely you have sleep apnea. The test is not the funniest thing in the world, but there is nothing to be scared about. Just do it so there can be a healthier better you! Good luck!
Topic: RE: Problems with sinuses
Hi Shelly, you are not alone. When my sinuses/allergies are acting up, nothing helps. I have a humidifier on my machine but it does not seem to help with that. All I can do is hope that now I have had my surgery, everything will slowly get better. I have actually found that my bronchitis is less since using the machine. But I do know it is very hard to breath with the machine and having a stuffy nose. All I can suggest is maybe calling the person who set you up on your machine or your PCP for advice/help. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon!
Topic: RE: Camping?
i had one patient tell me he had some kind of battery that he took camping with him and he loved it. he said it would only run for two nights but i have no idea where he got such a thing. only other thing to do is sleep as upright as possible when you cant use our machine and dont sleep on your back at all.
Topic: RE: humidity with airpressure
you dont have to use the humidity if you dont like it. it is a personal preference thing really. the dr orders it because the cpap dries you out and leaves your sunus membranes dry/cracked suseptible to infection. Some people only use the humidifier in the winter when the air is more dry. if water condenses in the mask turn the heat down [if you have a heated humidifier] if the heat of the water is warmer than the room temp it may condense in the mask.
Topic: RE: Problems with sinuses
some people say the cpap dries them out and lessens drainage...some people have the opposite problem. one thing to try is having a heated humidifier added to your machine if you already use one try not using it. Some people like to use humidity in the winter but not in the summer. to get a heated humidifier if you dont already have one is to get a prescription from your dr. also you can talk about using flonase or some other allergy nasal spray with your dr.

being extra tired will affect apnea for the worse. also sleep on your back as much as you can. sleep apnea is typically worse on your back.

Tim- I didn't know what ALS was either- I searched online and here is what I found.
ALS= amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease.
I hope that is right- most of the sites I found had this same description.
