Topic: RE: c-pap in the hospital
Yep I was told to bring it, but ended up not needing it because I didn't stay
overnight.
Topic: c-pap in the hospital
Did anyone use their c-pap in the hospital after surgery? Do you take it to the hospital with you? Just wondering.

I think that there is NO ideal mask -- although I LOVE my Nasal Aire, of course! I bought the Swift with my own money, just to try something different, and I liked the nasal part of it, but the sides left marks on my face! Maybe you have to have a thin face for this, and mine will never be thin enough!

So you do have the humidier attached? I found that this helped me. I no longer use it, though, and I'm fine. Dryness could also be because your mouth is opening. Some people use a chin-strap to stop this. But I found that after about 2 weeks, I adjusted, and my mouth was staying closed on its own (I think!).

Topic: RE: Surgeon says not to use anymore???
Well, this just goes to show why we have specialists in medicine! My own PCP knew very little about OSA, and I basically self-diagnosed! This guy is the surgeon, not a sleep specialist. Everything I read before my surgery said that not only did I HAVE to have my autopap in the hospital, but I had to continue using if afterward. OSA can be fatal, so it is absolutely necessary! Now maybe he has some issue with the bi-pap per se, but I don't see what is has to do with the pouch. The air is going into our lungs, so it's counter-intuitive at the least.
In general, see my post about the Autopap, which I am totally sold on. I see that you already HAD your surgery, though ... I haven't been keeping up with the board lately. I hope you are continuing to use something, and that your recovery is going well.
I think my post also dealt with WLS and apnea.

Topic: RE: CPAP question
Hi Beth -
How high is the cpap machine relative to your bed? I was having trouble with condensation (spitting water at me****il I found out from my pulmonary therapist that placing the machine and humidifier at the same level as my head would solve the problem. He was right.
It's worth a try.

Topic: My CPAP has really improv...
My CPAP has really improved my sleep and wakefulness during the day so much. It's really made a difference. But, I wake up about four times a night and have to drink water because my mouth is so dry my teeth are stuck to my lips and my tongue to the roof of my mouth. Has anyone else dealt with this? I use distilled water, of course, in my machine, but this still happens.

Topic: Autopap 'plug'
I switched to an Autopap about 2 years ago, and I loved it! It adjusts just to your needs, instead of staying at one pressure all night. From looking at the downloads, I could see the pressure changing often, all night long!
Since my surgery last December, I have gone from 238 to 152. My Autopap has adjusted, all along the way. My average pressure has gone from 15 to 9 ... and I just had the lower pressure changed from 9 to 7, since I suspect that actually I should be even lower! As I get to my goal, I realize that I probably will always have to use the machine, but at least the pressure will be less! And that makes it all more tolerable, somehow!
So ... anyone who is doing the surgery, especially, get an AUTOPAP! The only alternative is to have another sleep study every month or so, as you are losing weight, and who want to go thru that!? But even for those who are not losing weight, the autopap is a great idea! My pressure before ranged from 9 to 21 during the night ... so you know that my Cpap that was 'set' at 13 wasn't really as effective as the Autopap!

I know I sound like a broken record ... but have you considered the Nasal Aire II? The strap lines is one reason I started using it to begin with! I had open sores on my face, in addition to the strap lines, with every other mask I used!

Topic: RE: Switched to Nasal Aire and hate it!!
Please do stick with it! I've been using it for years, after trying about 6 others, and I wouldn't use anything else! You do need to try adjusting the bands ... the headgear helps the most, but I personally don't like anything on my head so I do without it. As for the air, the ramp is necessary. Also, were you fitted properly? The air should NOT be escaping like that! I got mine on ebay, for a decent price, if your insurance won't cover it. (Most will only do one every 6 months.) Also, is this the Nasal Aire II, or the original? The II is much better for noise, I have found!
Please don't give up on it yet!
