Another thing you might consider, is whether either your filter needs changing, or you mask and hose need cleaning. Especially after being sick, these should be taken care of, so that you don't reinfect yourself. If this has become a kind of continuous problem, you may want to talk to you doctor about a spray, such a Nasocort to keep your nose unblocked.
Topic: RE: CPap bother sleeping partner
My husband of 35 years and I, have solved the embarassment problem. We both have C-Paps. I have been using mine for over ten years. After I started using mine for about a year, my husband was tested. His sleep apenea was not as severe as mine, but he also had restless leg syndrome. After he started using his, I improved. His restless legs had been disturbing my sleep, on top of my sleep apnea. One reason for the difference in severity, is that there are several other factors that are considered. You may stop breathing many more times that someone else, but for shorter periods of time, while someone with less episodes may stop for a longer period of time. They also consider how low your oxygen saturation is, which is a result of both how many times, and for how long you stop breathing. Then you add restless leg, and compound the problem. In my husbands case, his deficit was greater because of the combination, even though his sleep apnea was't all that bad. As far as getting used to it goes, I don't even use the ramp anymore, and I can't sleep without it. I don't even nap for a few minutes without it. Wouldn't that be ironic, to lose enough weigh to not need the machine, but not be able to sleep without it?

Topic: RE: ****Claustraphobic and Needing C-Pap****
I couldn't tolerate any of the masks; I would pull them off my face in the middle of the night. I ended up getting a detnal prothesis that causes my bottom jaw to jut forward slightly. This helped bring my mild/moderate sleep apnea down to just mild, but did not cure it. It was much more convenient; no machines to deal with, especially if you travel. My biggest problem is remembering where I put the darn thing!
Topic: What the heck is a 4 channel?
I saw my lung doctor today for my pre-op evaluation. He did my chest x-ray and gave me a basic PFT. Then he ordered a sleep study even though my surgeon didn't. Oh well. Better safe than sorry. The one nurse who took my information for the study said something about a 4 channel. Anybody know what the heck this is? Thanks!
Topic: RE: Problems with sinuses
Hi, I have had the same problem using a cpap. My sinuses are chronically inflamed, lots of post nasal drainage, headaches, low grade infections. All of those gross and painful symptoms of sinusitis. I had surgery in 2000 and I am glad I did. However the cpap is an irritant. When I tried the humidifier with the cpap I woke up with swollen eyes. I do need to use one, but the cure seems worse than the problem. I know the sleep apnea (& other severe sleep disorder as well) have messed up my metabolism. One of the scarey things that happens now is my throat will close off for a second and no air can get through while I am awake. It has been difficult going to the dentist because they push my tongue around and cut off my airway. Strange feeling. I know that my obseity contributes to that situation. Hopefully, sleep apnea will help in my favor to have insurance pay for it. I know this doesn't help to solve your problem, but it is a real one.

I had the same problem, mine was setting higher then my head and it started to rain. I then placed it on the floor next to the bed and no problems since.

I use an attachment that hooks onto my water-pik and that runs warm salt
water (saline solution) through my nose. It's called Dr. Grossan's
Sinus Irrigator tip. It's the legacy model, they have also got a house model that uses a different one. I can really feel the difference when I use it, and I have a very bad problem with post nasal drip.
The link is www.grossan.com
I also experimented with various masks till I found the ResMed Activa. It doesn't leak at all for me (and i used to hate waking up with the masks I used to use leaking and making a terrible farting noise!) And the straps are
pretty loose, so no marks in the morning.
