Topic: RE: DO I HAVE SLEEP APNEA
You need to have a physician write an order for a sleep study. Do you have a PCP?

Topic: RE: apnea better after weightloss
Mine is definitely better, but I'm still using the CPAP and haven't had an official sleep study yet. My doctor told me to wait until I have lost almost all my weight. But, I am definitely doing better because sometimes I sleep without the CPAP and I DON"T wake up with a headache. Donna

Topic: RE: Mouth Breathing
Same problems for me. Chin strap didn't work. I'm being sent a full face mask and hope that will help. I'll let you all know how it goes after I get it. Even if I am mouth breathing, my sleep apnea has really improved: no headaches, no sleepiness or tiredness. Donna

Replying to this old thread - I told my wife that she would be sleeping next to "Darth Charlie" - she laughed. Heck, my wife is about a geeky as I am (and I'm a mondo geek) Actually, the more I see of the masks, Luke in the Bacta tank http://www.maarasuniverse.com/luke2/lukeinbacta1.jpeg

Topic: Mouth Breathing
I posted this over at the men's forum but thought it might be smart to try here as well. I've been on my cpap (moderate sleep apnea) for two weeks now. I've seen some overall benefit but worry about what I see described as mouth breathing is impacting that issue. I wake up with a desert, dry mouth 2-3 times per night. It doesn't seem as if my mouth is actually flopping open, it just appears that my lips open up and the air leaks out that way. A chin strap is suggested for the problem but I don't believe it would help based on what I just described. What's worse is that my pressure isn't even that high (10cm). Any suggestions from you "experienced" cpap users?? solman

Good luck, Charlie. Stick with it. Don't give up. It's really been great for me. No headaches in the morning. No sleepiness during the day -- especially no falling asleep at the wheel. Donna

Topic: Just got my results
The sleep study center just called me with the results of my first study - severe sleep apnea - 54/hour. Looks like I'm heading for a machine

Topic: ever need pressure setting raised??
I was wondering if anyone here ever needed their pressure setting raised at some point. I thought I remembered reading a post where someone set their machine to a different level on their own. I think I may need a higher setting. My setting feels to me like nothing. I used to feel the air coming in, now I don't. It's been three years or so, and I have gained weight since then. I don't want to have a new sleep study and machine if I can avoid it, because I'd have to pay 20%. I know they told me machines should be replaced every two years, but those things are outrageously expensive. Over a thousand dollars for a glorified fan. I bet it costs twenty dollars to make! Anyway, I was wondering if I should reprogram my machine and raise the levels a little at a time til it feels right. I just don't feel like it's doing the job like it used to. Anyone else ever try this? BTW, I can't get surgery anymore because I found out I'm pregnant, but this is the only good board I've found online for apnea people. Thanks, Sarah
