After about two weeks, my itty bitty stomach quit feeling that fullness/pain. I don't know if I just became accustomed to the pressure or if my body trained the esophagus to close down a bit tighter... But, I've had only occasional episodes where I think I swallow air and feel uncomfortable with the CPAP on. Just keep using it - it's hard for the body to heal if it's oxygen deprived... My surgeon said the C-pap won't hurt the baby tummy or the suture lines. I've had not a moment's worth of trouble! My best to you! Angela in OKC Lap RNY 5/23/05 288/215/?145ish

Hi Billie, I used to do this... I would wake up and the mask would be in a drawer next to the bed or under the bed! The alarm didn't even wake me. It took me over a year of wearing it every night faithfully to get over my problems. Eventually you will quit taking it off I think, as your body gets used to it. For now relax knowing that at least you're getting a couple of good hours of sleep a night and that your body is getting the oxygen it needs to function for a couple of hours. When I relaxed about it, and quit trying to do it "right" I noticed a big adjustment to my use of it. Good luck.

that's exactly what i had to do. and i have bcbs so what i did was i borrowed that mask from my sleep clinic first for a week to see if i liked it because bcbs will only give a new mask every few months so i had to make sure it was what i wanted. then i returned it and the sleep clinic put through the order to my medical supply place.

Topic: RE: Mouth Breathing
i had a problem with clogged sinuses so they gave me a mask that covers the nose and the mouth so i could breath with both and it doesn't matter. this mask is much more easier to breathe naturally with. see if you can borrow masks from your clinic then order the best one, that's what they let me do because my insurance hates giving me new masks all the time.

It took me about 4 months to get used to it and all I can say is stick with it. I have a problem wher I shread the bed while sleeping, pull the covers off of the bed throw them in the floor, all the pillows gone, I have woke up with the cpap hose wraped around me fighting it. Ya I am not really a dream to sleep with. I did cure myself from taking it off by burrying my face in a pillow and I actualy reach over the bed rail and grab the rail and the head board with the other. It sucks but better than sleeping without it. My flailing has slowed down while I sleep which pleases my wife quite a bit.

Shannon, You are a god send. I have my sleep study testing next week. I am really new to all this and now I can go in without a worry. Thank you.

I did that for two or three nights in a row. Now, and this seems really simplistic I know, I think to myself before I doze off that I can't take it off until it's light outside. I actually remember waking up twice a few nights ago, just about to turn it off (evidently I turn it off when I take it off), and thinking "no, it's not time." Plus, the cat get's really ticked if I do, because then I snore and wake her up. And she wakes me up. Repeatedly. I have the full mask because I'm a mouth breather, and it's got the humidifier in it. The hardest thing for me is adjusting the humidity every night because of the weather. If it's too much, I wake up, and if it's too little I wake up

:-0 I'm having the same problem Mike!!!!!!!!!! I thought I was going nuts since I'm only 1 week post op, but it hurts so bad I can't keep my Bi-Pap mask on more than 2 hours. Did you ever find any explanation for it?
