Topic: Sleep Study Last Night
I think I failed Don't think I slept at all. It was the most uncomfortable bed I ever tried to sleep in. The tech confirmed that I have Apnea and Joy of Joy's I got to wear a C-PAP for the last 4 hours of the test.....then for sure I didn't sleep. So....my question, will this delay my surgery? This is the last test and I am waiting for a surgery date. What do you all think? Thanks and regards, Ronna

Topic: RE: Mouth Breathing
Hi, I had the same problem. Tried the chin strap but uncomfortable. The full mask didn't work much better. I tried every single mask they sleep center has. Nothing worked. I had to get a mandibular device which is a dental device. It clamps over the top and bottom teeth. Not as effective as the CPAP but still helps. It gets adjusted like a retainer. It pushes the jaw out just enough to stay open.

Hi, I was diagnosed after losing 165 lbs. Mine is obstructive so will always have it. My CPAP is only a 7. If any air leaks out then the mask is not tight enough. I couldn't get use to it. Tried over a year. I had to get the mouth piece. It's called a mandibular something. I had to pay $150.00 and insurance paid $1350.00. It went under health insurance since medical problem. It clamps to your upper and lower teeth. Also a challenge for me because almost my entire mouth is capped or has a bridge. My bridge actually came loose a few times. Still it's better then the machine. It's not as good as the CPAP but works. I also have TMJ which was aggravated by it. But may be something you can use.

Hi, Your local DME (medical supplier) should have a spray cleaner available for washing your cpap mask and tubing. I use one called Citrus II and it's awesome. It runs about $8 a bottle. I bought mine several months ago and still have half a bottle. It won't discolor your mask. It has a light citrus smell to it but you won't smell it on the mask. Once you start using it, You won't want to use regular soap again!

Topic: RE: Does anyone take the mask off in their sleep?
Hello I have been using my cpap for over 7 years. It took me a couple of months to get used to my mask. I would wake up with it on my head, in the bed or on the floor. Now all these years later i can't go to sleep without it. I am pre-op, surgery scheduled on nov. 29. Can not wait till i can start lowering the pressure till i'm finally off my addiction to it. LOL Anyway keep putting it on everynight and you will finally get used to it. Don't give up on using it. D

Topic: RE: DO I HAVE SLEEP APNEA
Hello Theresa Ran across your post from oct 3. Have you followed up with a professional to inquire about sleep apnea? If you have not and you are still haveing alot of the symptons i would encourage you to do so. Sleep apnea can be serious if left untreated. I have been on my cpap for 7 years have had several test and they are no big deal. Good Luck D

With that much loss, 12 may very well be too high. I am on 5 . . . it seems to work well. Does your unit let you chose a lower rate? I would talk to your pulmonist, but try to avoid another sleep study if you are not yet to goal. Something isn't right if you are uncomfortable and there is a lot of seeping. Best of luck!

Topic: Cpap after surgery
Hi, I am 7 months post op and have lost 120 lbs. I had my machine lowered from 14 to 12 a few months ago. Now it just seems there is so much pressure. Last night I woke up and the insides of my nose actually hurt from so much air. Since getting up my nose has been running continuously like a faucet. This has been going for about 4 days. My husband says there is so much air seeping out of the mask he can't sleep because of the noise. Do you think I need to get it lowered again? I have tried sleeping without and I can, but the other day my husband says I was really snoring bad so he made me put the mask back on. Any suggestions? I don't want to have another sleep study done because it cost me so much. Thanks, Lynn

I wash the plastic portion of my mask pretty much each day. I use a little soap and rinse well with warm water - a quick shake and put back together. It air drys. I don't think I would use the "baby wipe" - - just because of the smell and residue. I've been using mine for about 9 months. I generally keep it plugged in, but routinely clean the humidifier portion as well by giving it a good rinsing and allowing to air dry. I use the vinegar and water every week or two - - I was compulsive about cleaning it a lot more when I first started. You will find a routine that works for you.

Topic: Please help...CPAP cleaning question
I was recently diagnosed with Sleep Apnea and just got my CPAP machine. My questions are about cleaning the mask, etc. I have the one that straps on to my head and just covers my nose. It says to wipe it off every day after use. Can I use baby wipes for this? Another booklet says to wa**** off every day with mild detergent. Then the technician that gave me the machine says to wa**** with water and vinegar. Some say every day, some say once a week. Also, online at cpapman.com I saw a spray that you can use to clean the mask with. Has anyone tried something like that? I guess my question is.....how do you keep your CPAP mask clean? Also, do you leave your unit plugged in or unplug it after using it at night? Just wondering. Thanks in advance for all your help!
