Topic: What would be signs I don?t need CPAP anymore? Pressure on APAP now 5.5cm

Good morning everyone

i had Gastric Sleeve surgery in April this year and have lost 35kg in the last 6 months which is awesome. My APAP machine pressure reading has gone from between a 12 - 14cm to now being a 5.5cm. My AHIs since starting CPAP have always been 1 or under

i have a repeat sleep study booked in for January but I'm wondering whether I should ask for it to be done sooner given how low the pressure reading is now. Or does that pressure reading not really mean much and I should wait until January?

Any thoughts would be appreciated

many thanks

Topic: RE: Sleep Apnea blood sugar and new CPAP machine

I have been using a auto cpap machine for the last 6 months or so. It has been a very slow go trying to use my machine. I just don't think cpap is for me. I have always had sleeping issues..insomnia..and a very sensitive sleeper. Having to try to fall asleep with a mask on my face makes those issues worse. I have been diagnosed with sleep apnea for about 8 years and it was the same thing before as well..and i eventually stopped using my machine. I had to goto my sleep doctor for the pre-surgery stuff..and of course he did another sleep study...and of course the sleep study found my sleep apnea was really bad..Even though i'm pretty sure I didnt fall asleep at all during the study. Yet they say i slept over 6 hours. I was just laying there with my eyes shut. Anyways I have a follow up appointment weds. Not looking forward to it.

Topic: RE: Problems with post nasal drip and CPAP

I have been on allergy drops and hadn't been getting post-nasal drip for months. However, I've been on the C-Pap for a week, and the back of the throat nasal drainage has made it difficult to sleep, especially on my side. I hate to have to take other allergy medicine in addition to my immune therapy drops, but I may have no choice.

I'm not surprised that your BS levels have improved. Stress tends to drive BS up, and if you're breathing better on the new machine, your body is probably under less stress.

Topic: RE: Stomach air?

I started APAP about 3 weeks ago but have been sick and breathing different this week and couldnt use it it for the last few days. Last night however it statered doing that me to me. I wonder if your weightloss with a constant pressure value no longer fits your more agile airway if you will. I would see your RT and have them review your numbers. Goodluck

yes it is dangerous to not use your CPAP machine. Go talk to someone at the sleep doctor's office or cpap supplier and voice your concerns.

Thank you

I'm now off the CPAP and pleased about that. I was never very good about being on it. I hope someone checks this pa st and sees your great advice and it can help them.

Cheers

I may not be there yet, but I'm closer than I was yesterday!

I went onto the sleep apnea category on here and wonder how you made out?

I just had to have my mask replaced and cannister. My cannister had some pink mould by the looks of it inside of it. The CPAP person said that's because I don't always use distilled water. So, yes distilled water is important. And the water in it keeps the air moist. You might be coughing from the air being too dry.

I don't think the CPAP can make you lightheaded or dizzy. It's not an oxygen machine. It's just pressuring the air it puts through it, which is the air in the room. See your doctor if you are lightheaded or dizzy because you may have something else going on.

If you are not sleeping through, let your doctor know. They will tell you if you need to adjust the pressure and what to try.

Hope you are doing well though.

Didn't know they had an auto-cpap! I might have to see about an upgrade!

Topic: Sleep Apnea blood sugar and new CPAP machine

I recently updated my CPAP machine for sleep apnea. I went to a new auto CPAP that varies the air pressure as determined to be optimum by the CPAP machine. After I wake up the auto CPAP machine allows me to analyze my breathing while I slept with my smart phone or on my computer using Sleepyhead software. With the new machine the amount of air pressure put out by the machine has automatically increased over what my old, non-automatic machine did. I have also noticed that my BS levels as per my CGM vary a lot less and remain steadier at night and with this I have been able to slightly reduce my Lantus insulin intake by about 5% and my Humalog by about 30-50%. Has anyone else experienced an improvement of BS levels and a slight reduction of insulin intake with an auto-CPAP?
