Topic: RE: Has anyone had RNY at Duke?
Hi. Thanks for the info. Is the 'swift' a machine or mask apparatus? I am a bit confused. Does it go in the nose like the two little buds people use on soap operas when they are in hospital?? Where do you get the swift? Thanks, ny petunia

I am a seasoned CPAP user of 3 years. It is tough to get used to the machine. It took me a couple of months. For me, the cannulas are much better than the face mask because I get claustraphobic. I started out with The Breeze and used it for a couple of years. Last year, Resmed came out with "The Swift". I wouldn't give you a penny for any of the other stuff since using the Swift. It doesn't cover your face. You can even put your glasses on. I too am a mouth breather but managed to train myself to sleep with my mouth closed while on the machine. However, if I fall asleep without it, I still mouth breathe. In order to train myself, I purchased a head band for $.99 at Walmart. I ran it under my chin and over the top of my head. You can also purchase chin straps but my head band was cheaper and did the trick. That took a little while too but I got through it. Just be persistant. Once you finally learn to sleep with it, you won't believe how much better you will feel.

Hi. I know how you feel. I had the same problems. I am a mouth breather also. I choked, gagged, made gurgling noises, the full gamut! I just had to put my mind to this and use the machine. I do plan to get a full face mask. I have a gold edition nose mask and I hope to find someone who wants to exchange their full face mask for my nasal mask-I have 2 and this one is not used-not ever. My email is gabriellaroyale@yahoo.com right now I just keep on trying to use the one nasal mask like it or not. The machine takes a long time to get used to it. Just persevere and it really will get better. I promise. Everything gets easier the more you do it. You don't have to 'like' it you just have to 'need' it. Hugs, carol

Topic: RE: Had My Initial Consultation With Dr. Enochs
I was diagnosed and have the cpap for 2 months now. I have a ful face mask which I hated at first, but now I realize that I am a mouth breather and the full face mask works well and you don't have to worry about keeping your mouth shut.It does take some getting used to, but now I feel great all day, not tired and grumpy all day like I was

HI. My husband has severe sinus problems and therefore, uses a full face mask. That way he can breathe through his mouth and still reap the benefits of the CPAP machine. I have the regular one myself; we make quite a pair! Jennie

Topic: Need Help Please!!!!
I have recently been diagnosed with severe sleep apnea and restless leg syndrome. Well the requip for the rls is great, but I cannot go to sleep with my cpap machine. I know I will feel so much better, but I just lay there, I can not go to sleep. I have been a 'mouth breather' for so long I just lay there thinking don't open your mouth, don't open your mouth. My pressure is on 18 and I can ramp from 9. I am not sure what my problem is. They told me I have to use it at least 6 hrs a night or the ins will not pay for the machine. So far I have not even gotten to sleep with it on but once. That night was so bad. I woke up throwing up gaging and choking, I like to have never got the thing off my nose. It really scared me. Please any help you guys can offer is so appreciated. I am worried about not only when I have surgery, but the healing, and not to mention how much better I will feel with it. --Angela

Jenni, Thank you for your response. I just woke up from nap and now the other side of tongue is all chewed up. I will try to find the bite plate positioner and give it a try. I just read your profile. I also am having surgery May 16. I will be thinking of you and God Bless. Donna B.

Nope, but you might try and get a bite plate positioner over the counter so it holds your jaw open a little and helps it to relax and then you won't keep biting the inside. Might be worth a try?? Jennie

Topic: Crusty eyes with CPap on
Hi- I am 3 weeks into cpap and i love feeling rested but after the first few nights, I wake up with my eyes all crusty and I don't know why. I'm thinking the mask is irritating them or I have air leaks there. Any one else know the answer? Thanks!

Topic: Tongue Biting
I received my CPAP machine about 10 days ago. I love it. No more headaches. I never used to remember dreams, but now everymoring I remeber parts of my dreams. But the problem I am having is I keep biting on he left side of my tongue. I normally sleep on left side with mouth closed, but sometime during night, somehow the side of my tongue ends up between my molars and it is like my jaw is locked tight biting down. The pain wakes me up and I have to make my jaws open. I have even bit the side of my mouth and ended up with big canker like sore. This did not happen before CPAP and the sores are very tender and not going away. Anyone else have this experience? Donna B.
