Sarah, Hello!.... I went to the doctor he said if im that concerned dont use it ...he feels with my pre-op loss of 31 pounds and the average 20 after the first month i will not need it . I will however make an appt with my sleep md to see if she would like to retest me in a month or so . My md was going to lower my pressure to 8 which is the average in the hospital . He also has said that he has never heard of a problem like that . I wake up with a full belly of air every am . I dont want to risk stretching or exploding my new pouch . After about 1 week i may go back to it but at a low setting .......Kitty

Congrats to you! I was just dx'd this past week - did the sleep study as part of the roux-en-y pre-op work-up, was put on Bipap titrated at 22/15. I've had issues with my mask leaking at that pressure as well (as another poster mentioned) - very slight if I adjust the mask properly. But I found a homemade solution that eliminates the noise of the leaks that do happen - a piece of fabric cut-out to fit between the seal of the mask and my face at least gets rid of the noise of a leak that would jar me awake. Congrats again! Your stats are an inspiration

This is a question I'm curious about as well. I was just diagnosed last week, put on Bipap at a fairly high pressure - 22/15. I'll be asking my doc this during follow-up, realizing that the danger might be more acute for Cpap because it's one continuous pressure. But I've noticed, even though my pressure isn't continuous, it isn't such a stretch to see how I could be swallowing air at times.....on occasion with the full-face mask I'll get "chipmunk cheeks."

Hi ya!! great to know ya! My question . Can the pressure be set too high for post op? I read a profile where this guy had the setting too high and it blew out his new pouch while in the hospital . he almost died. .........Kitty

All the machines have a card that records the usage, I think. When you have your machine adjusted, you just take your card in; you don't have to take in the machine. I do not have to go bac****il I lose some weight- 60 lb or so. Good luck, Ned

Hi Ned, THe Sleep Disorders place I went to told me similiar statistics. I am surprised too. I have been on it just slightly over a week now and it has gotten in the way of spontaneous discussions wiht my wife in the middle of the night and perhaps some spontaneous physical interludes but I feel so much better it is worht it! The Sleep Disorder place I go to actually has several months of follow up calls to check on you and at least askes you if you are using hte machine. Also the machine they give me records how many nights and hours the machine has been used. They never said this but they implied this was due to insurance. After all, insurance doesn't want to pay for it if the person isn't going to use anyway. Also, now that I am using it and talking about it I am surprised how many people I know are using it at home! Almost a best kept secret! I am glad it is working for you too! Take care, Ralph

Hi, I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea a year ago. I had stoppage of 70 times an hour, and my oxygen level dropped to 60%. I,too, am amazed at how much better life is since my machine. I find I cannot sleep without it. Congrats on embracing the treatment. As I talk to folks, about 90% of them who have sa themselves or their spouses, DO NOT use their machines! Ned

I have used my cpap for about a year, and I don't know what my levels are, but it could blow me off the bed, since my problem is severe. Congrats on your lowered level. I will be looking at that is a few months myself. Ned

My feet were swelling prior to my cpap, and so I am on a daily diuretic. Ask your PCP about that. Ned
