There is a correlation between neck circumference and the incidence of sleep apnea, i.e. the bigger the neck, the higher the risk of having sleep apnea.
Thanks so much for the information, especially about the metabolization. I have been using the oxygen almost every night.
My doc said to try sleeping without and monitor my weight, headaches, and Blood pressure. If they are all ok then he said I probably don't need the CPAP anymore. Really hoping he's right. I started out at 13psi and have to wear a full face mask because I breathe through my mouth. I've tried pillows and nasal masks - they are awful for me. Now, my issue is that I cannot find a mask that will seal over nose and mouth properly. My specialist has even special ordered masks for me and they won't seal. So, tonight for the first time in nearly a year I'm going to try sleeping without.
Well, I brought it and I used it. My oxygen levels were still low so they added oxygen and that was fine.
So glad that stage is over. I hope the sleep apnea goes away!
No. I have sleep apnea. But I do think its a good idea to get the oxygen, it helps you feel more alert and metabolize better.
Best wishes in your journey!
I had a sleep study test three weeks ago and my test proved I needed a breathing machine ASAP. I was told that I stopped breathing over a hundred times the night I took test, but it improved when the full breathing mask was worn. The doctor was the person that said I should online and find forums like this to see if I could get help finding a machine since I had no insurance an a new one is to high.
So I am here to ask if anybody has an extra machine to consider me for your donation or for what we can agree on as payment like shipping costs if they are not to high.
I had my sleep study in preparation for my WLS. It came back that I do not have sleep apnea, but it did show that at one point in my REM sleep my oxygen level went down to 74 for 14 minutes but then retuned to normal. My doctor had an overnight oximetry done at home, and now has me at 3 liers of oxygen overnight until another oximetry shows other than low oxygen. My RNY surgeon does not seem to be phased by this as long as I do not have sleep apnea.
did anyone else have something like this happen?
Why do they measure around your neck to check if you have sleep apnea? Interesting...
I have been using a CPAP for 6 years, and I think I will be getting rid of it soon. I have had to drop the pressure by 5psi over the last few weeks because it keeps blowing out of my mouth, no matter how tight I put the chin strap on. It is now set at 9.5 psi, and I plan on asking for another sleep study in the next few weeks to see if I still need it at all. I have lost a little over 40lbs since starting the pre-op diet, and I am 3 weeks post op now. I should be in Onderland in 2-3 weeks.
