Topic: RE: Taking mask off in my sleep
I have taken mine off in my sleep also. Who knows why we do it. I suggest that you keep at it. Better part of the night then none of the night. Aime

Topic: Taking mask off in my sleep
Hi all, I was diagnosed with sleep apnea in 2003 and was given a CPAP. I tried using it for about 3 months, but I ran into a problem where I took my mask off (unknowingly) in my sleep every night. So, I stopped using it. Recently, in preparation for RNY, I have begun using it again. Unfortunately, I am still having the same problem of taking it off in my sleep. I really don't know what to do at this point. It's not that the mask is uncomfortable or doesn't fit or anything like that. I talked to my doctor about it and he basically shrugged and said some people don't tolerate the CPAP. Have any of you encountered this problem, and if so, what did you do? Thanks, -Jenna

Hi Morgan, Now that you have your results your doctor will send a prescription to the medical devices company, once they receive it they will contact you, set up an appointment and come to your home with the C-Papp machine. The mask is included with the machine, so whatever your dr ordered is what you will get. If for any reason the mask is not good for you, the company will contact your dr for another prescription (mask only) and again, come to your home to fit you. Hope this info helps. Hugs, Connie

Topic: Never without my CPAP
I have been wearing my CPAP since Feb. 2003, although I should have had it years and years before then. I have had sleep apnea since I was born. I was born very prematurely and had to have a version of a CPAP when my Mother brought me home. Anyway...I didn't have the machine growing up and I snored so badly that nobody in my house slept much. You could hear me between walls and closed doors. Sad! When I finally had my sleep study and wore the mask for the first time that night, I thought I was in heaven. I can't sleep/nap without my CPAP now. But I no longer wake myself and everyone else around me up all night long. Good luck to you who have just started. The mask may take some getting used to but stick with it. You will reap the benefits! Dre

Topic: RE: Sleep Study Questions???
I just called the pulmonologist's office to see if they have my sleep study results and guess what...THEY DID!!! The front desk lady said that I have moderate sleep apnea and will require a CPAP machine. She said that they will send my info to Apria and they will take over from here. I'm not sure what will happen from here though. How do they know what mask I want? Do I just get the CPAP machine in the mail or do they set everything up for me? Well, that's one more co morbidity to add to the list. Hopefully the insurance will approve me soon! Wish me luck. Thanks! Morgan

I would say you probably do have sleep apnea. That is exactly what happened to me when I went for my sleep study. The results took exactly 2 weeks and from there everything went very fast. The pulmonologist faxed a prescription to the respiratory therapist and I had the C-Papp machine ready to go in 3 days. I guess you have to "hang" for anothr week. Good luck. Connie

Topic: RE: Where to buy inexpensive replacement mask...
Absolutely talk to your insurance company. Tell them that it isn't broken, but that it just doesn't fit well. Sleep apnea is dangerous and you must use your machine every night. Failing to do do could mean serious consequences. The insurance company doesn't want that liability on their hands so make sure you tell them that you are unable to use the machine with the mask they supply. If you have to replace it I have used www.cpapworld.com to replace my machine, several masks and filters when I didn't have insurance. Excellent service (a real person if you call), they get your prescription for you if you need to get a new machine and they ship immediately. They have a great selection and the prices are the lowest I have found (although none of this stuff is cheap!). Hope this helps. Jennifer

I'm not sure why it is taking so long. I called the pulmonologist that ordered the test the other day and asked if they could speed up the process. The front desk girl said she would see what she can do, but I haven't gotten a call back. At this point it's already been over a week so I may as well just wait it out . Thanks so much for the response!! Morgan

I had a sleep study done a few months and they put a mask on me in the middle of the night too and I have severe sleep apnea. I can't understand why you gotta wait so long. I called the sleep clinic were I went and they told me how many apneas I had that night and what my oxygen level dropped to the next day. I would call and ask. Goodluck. Andrea
