Topic: Nasal Pillows and Chafing? suggestions to improve ???

While I am sleeping SO much better, my nose is peeling!  Anyone have suggestions to minimize or eliminate?  I've tried salves and creams but they don't seem to help.

Air in the stomach is horrible.  I hadn't thought of it being an improperly fitting mask, I thought it was the volume was too high. Thanks for the heads up.  I hope we both get rid of this contraption!

Hey Monique

I'm in the East bay as well. Just starting out on the road to having WLS.

Ive also been considering WLS for a few years and have just now came to the decision to procede.

MY advice would be find out what the contact information for the clinic is and start calling. As good as all the centers are about reaching out and helping, I've found that no is a better advocate for me than me. As a healthcare professional myself I understand that individuals can easily get lost in the system, I am the only one that won't lose track of me.

Also I would say get a notebook and start writing down all the phone interactions you have and with whom, what the converstaion entailed.  just so all the information is kept track of.

Good luck on your journey,

Shawn

Topic: I Hate Having Chiari & Apnea!

I really hate having Chiari Malformation Type 1 & Apnea. When I had my appointment with my sleep study doctor on 12/29/2014 and I did bring in my data card from my BiPAP machine and she got the info. from the card and it said that I need to set-up an appointment for a sleep study test to change the setting on the machine so it can help manage in what obstructive/central apnea that I still have when I was on the big side and before I had my Decompression Surgery. Although the data on the card also says that my apnea has gotten better since I had my VSG surgery in June of 2010 & my Decompression Surgery that I had done in March of 2014. Also depends on how much damage the Chiari has done I may have apnea for the rest of my life, I hope that's not the case. I hope when I go in for the sleep study test and with the new setting I hope it helps manage with the rest of my apnea and get ride of it, if not I hope something comes along that would get ride of the problem with this Chiair I have. I hope and wish for a cure for Chiari real soon. Having Chiari is hell for me and other people that have Chiari. Me and other people that have Chiari wishes for a cure one of these days and I hope that's going to happen in the near future. I do have a sleep study test on 01/06/2015. Wish me luck everyone. I need it.

Oh yeah! I forgot to say that I have sleep apnea for at least for 20 plus years now. I wish for it to go away. I don't want it for the rest of my life.

In addition. to neck circumference.  Your thyroid is in your neck.  If is enlarged, it can interfere with swallowing and breathing.

Me too definitely.  I just found a mask that fit a couple of weeks before my WLS consultation.  I was not even thinking about losing weight in my face.  The one night I used it since surgery it leaked so badly that I woke up in pain from all the air in my stomach.  I am going to try again this week but with my mask I don't think it will work well.  I'd rather not have to us it at all.

Thanks.  I will talk to my pulmonologist.  Hopefully I won't need it at all but that is good to know.

Yes it is called a tiltration (SP) cpap. I have one it reads what pressure you need and adjusts accordingly.

I did not know that they could autoadjust I may have to talk to my doctor about that.  I tried mine for the first time since surgery last night it did not go well.  I woke up at 2:20am and I know that my stomach must have been full of air because after letting go of some gas I felt better.  I am not trying that again soon
