Topic: I don't have sleep Apnea what happens now?
I am a little neverous about what happens now. I did my sleep study and I couldn't sleep. I don't have to go back for a second night and they did not put the mask on. The tech said she didn't realize the importance of my test (lapband surgery****il this morning when the test was over. I don't think I have sleep apnea. I was already approval. I have a 36.7 BMI, Depression, joint problems, asthma, and the on set of diabetes. Will not having sleep apnea change my approval status? Surgery date July 17, 2008
Topic: sleeping pills?
I take Ambien CR to help me sleep and stay asleep. My PCP prescribed it due to what I think is apnea. I had a sleep study done last year. When I had the study done they had me take the pill. Would this not defeat the purpose of the study? Thanks in advance for any help.
Topic: RE: I hate the cpap!
Mary, I went to my Pulmonary specialist yesterday. He said my number was 8 and thats not too bad. he told me usually they like to have you stay on it for at least 3 months to adjust to it. I told him I am now only getting about 4 hours of sleep because of the c-pap. He said if I can't stand it, then don't wear it. I have tried lots of adjustments. He said if I am getting less sleep now then it defeats its purpose. he told me some people simply can't adjust to it. I am one of those people. the auto c-pap seems to be the easiest to use, but still not what I would call a good nights sleep unless you count on feeling like you are going in for surgery every night. Doctor told me that the lap band surgery literally gets rid of the sleep apnea. Today I called the c-pap company to come and pick the darn thing up. This alone is enough to have the surgery.
I like most of you have a throbbing headache and stopped up head every morning. I don't drink, but if I did this would feel like a major hang over everyday. I use two inhalers daily and that helps. So hopefully the weight will soon start dropping and I will never have to wear a c-pap. good luck to all of you. I think if your numbers are higher than mine it may be more critical to wear the c-pap. I have no high blood pressure or heart disease yet, so that helps. Talk to your doctors and not the sleep centers. They are making money off of us folks! Your doctor will tell you how important it is for you to wear these masks.

I sure hope the sleep apnea goes away with weight loss - I hate my CPAP, too! Hate it a LOT. It took me forever to get sinus surgery and get those corrected and stop having sinus infections all the time - with the CPAP I get sinus infections constantly. I stopped using it and stopped getting infections. And yes, I clean it, lol. My nose just hates it. I've tried 3 or 4 masks and finally got one I was comfortable with but it still causes sinuses to go crazy. Agh!

Topic: RE: Just a question
I have yet to find the right mask or nasal pillow. I have had my machine for two years, and have never used it for more than a couple of hours. I always wake up to air spraying across my face, the hum of the machine doesn't bother me. I have research many different styles of masks, and nasal flow things, and could spend a fortune on different types. I don't have a fortune to spend. So I think I might try one of the special pillows designed to not let the mask rub off center. My RNY is schedualed for October, and my surgeon has informed that I must use the machine in the hospital.
I am going to make a concentrated effort over the next few months to find a way to sleep with this.

Hi Lisa. I just got a c-pap about 3 weeks ago and I hate mine too. I think I get less sleep now than before. I hate my machine so much that I named her. Her name is (She Devil!) My understanding is after the surgery and weight loss that we no longer will have to use that monster. Good luck.

You might not have the right style of mask. My wife used to take her's (full nasel/mouth) off all the time until we both switched to just a nasel pillow style.
Good Luck

i am interested to hear more about having to wear the cpap before surgery or else.
what is that all about. why is it required. i have had a cpap for 6 years but cannot wear it (tried for a year) so it sits and gathers dust for last 5 years. but i want an RNY and want to know what you were talking about. stop breathing on the table do you wear it on table?

I constantly take my mask off sometime duringthe night. I wake up to the humming of the machine. Is this normal? I have had it for over a year.
