Topic: RE: SLEEP AIDS AND MUSCLE RELAXERS ARE A NO NO WITH APNEA
I have severe sleep apnea diagnosed 2 years ago (stopped breathing 21 times in an hour during the testing) I was actually NOT breathing more than I was breathing in that hour, anyways my MD knows that I have sleep apnea (I have a CPap) and he still gave me Vicodine and Lorazapan, and actually told me if I need one of them to help me sleep to keep taking the Loraz. So check w/ your own doc and make sure they know all your issues and they can make the best choice for you. Good Luck Linda
Topic: RE: 694lbs - Apnea result comparison
Mine was 163 in an hour, and the longest was 85 seconds. Most incidents were much shorter, and thankfully, I have no incidents while using the C-PAP.
Topic: RE: 694lbs - Apnea result comparison
Mine was something like 600 somthing in less than seven hours so a bit under a hundred per hour and 94 seconds was my longest. I asked them why the heck they didn't wake me!!!
Topic: 694lbs - Apnea result comparison
Hey everyone, I recently had my sleep study and the doctors pretty much told me I'm lucky to be alive. I'm not sure how bad my results are, but they said it was the worst they had seen. I was curious if you guys would share your numbers with me for comparison and let me know what you think of mine.
127 Apnea Incidents per hour
105 seconds - Longest period without breathing

Topic: RE: sleep apnea and weight loss
Im going to be sweet and simple, and i hope not offensive. If the only way to make sure i dont die in my sleep is to go to bed dressed like a fighter pilot. Then suit me up like top gun cause I will rock it till the wheels fall off.

Getting used to the cpap will b hard, and i have to agree the mask is very important in getting used to it.

I actually just had my second study with the cpap done.. that is rough to get used to. I've never taken any sleep aids, as it turns out it would have been a big mistake with my level of apnea.

Topic: RE: Hello I just Found Out
My sleep apnea is pretty severe. I have obstruction 47 times per hour. I have had my machine for three nights, and co-workers said I looked well rested. I felt pretty good as well. Now I'm just trying to find the right mask.
My doc will cancel my surgery if I check into hospital without my machine. It is a hassel, but I just keep in mind that I'm getting a good deep and healing sleep, with appropriate levels of oxygen at night.
You will feel a bit like Darth Vader, but it's worth it. Usually weight loss reduces or eliminates sleep apnea.
Good luck to you!

Every morning in Africa , a gazelle wakes up.
It knows it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be killed.

It knows that it must run faster than the slowest gazelle, or it will starve.
It doesn't matter whether you're a lion or a gazelle
when the sun comes up you'd better be running.

Topic: RE: CPAP Required?
Our sleep clinic Doc told me that it is best to have a few weeks of treatment with CPAP or same type of machine (I use an APAP) BEFORE surgery. He is of the belief that it would be beneficial for my throat to have some practice staying open and my pulse ox levels consistent while sleeping before undergoing anesthia. I am required to have my machine with me the day of surgery to use afterwards. If I don't have it when I check into the hospital, then surgery is cancelled.
I'm experimenting with different masks now. They do look horrible, and are not very comfortable, but my DH and I make it fun.
Best of luck...
