I am newly diagnosed and was told I was a 50.  I just got my CPAP machine today and it is set at a level 12.   They brought me the wrong mask, I like the tubes that go up your nostrils only.  So, they will bring me that one tomorrow.  So, for tonight I have the full-cover nose mask.

Looking forward to getting some zzzzzz''ssss

I have had this for 15 years I know as I have been really tired for about that long.  Not once did a Doctor ever suggest a sleep study.  (I was even 70 pounds lighter back then, maybe that is why).  I was always told I was depressed or overweight.....

Sorry to have missed out on so much from sleeping all the time or just being crabby and not enjoying life.....hope that can all change now....

Topic: Burping??
When I went to my last follow up with my sleep Dr he gave me a nose mask to try to use. I am a mouth breather, but am having trouble finding a full mask that fits without leaking so he thought maybe I could train myself to sleep with my mouth closed or use a chin strap. I have been doing ok with just the mask. I dont wake up with an open mouth. I cant even open my mouth when awake because of the rush of air i can feel in my mouth/throat when I open it I feel like I am sufficating.  However, i notice I wake up at times and have to burp several times as if i was gulping air. Has anyone else had this issue? Does that mean I am opening my mouth in my sleep and just dont know it?

Thanks for the info.

Thank you Chris!! The time you took to read about this means a lot to our family. We want to reach out to others so this doesn't happen to another persons loved one or themselves. I went through about 5 masks before I found one that works for me. They have a new one called the Liberty. I love it!! Please don't give up. If you know others with sleep apnea, please feel free to share my story. We want to bring awareness of how serious this can be. God Bless.

Patty,

My deepest condolences to you and your family as a result of your brothers death.  I'm sure it was a very difficult time and a great shock. Certainly something no one should have to go through and I empathize with you completely.

I'm glad you posted your story. I was diagnosed with very severe sleep apnea over a year and half ago and have gone through 4 or 5 masks, but have never been able to use them consistently. I've lost a lot of weight since my surgery and my apnea may or may not be better. I haven't had a sleep study lately, and most nights I find myself either giving up on the mask before falling asleep, ripping the mask off in my sleep, or just not bothering with it.

I'll keep trying and eventually hope the mask and I can make peace. But your story proves how dangerous sleep apnea is, and gives me motivation to not give up. Again, I'm sorry for your brothers loss, and hope others will take heed.

Chris

Wow, I thought I was the only one that did this. I keep pulling it off in the middle of the night and don't always remember doing so. it seems that I'm only able to keep it on for 2-3 hours before I need to take it off, I hope I can get used to it.

Topic: RE: Water in the tube from the humidifier?

I'm new to the cpap and I noticed it doing this as I was getting ready to use it. I had filled it a little to high so I dumped out some of the water in the tank, and havent had a problem since.

Topic: RE: The dreaded Bi-Pap Machine

Gayle and Sandy,

As you can see I am new to this site:)  I was just diagnosed with sleep apnea and prescribed a bi-pap machine, so my case is apparently severe...I didn't even know that I had any sleep apnea...no wonder I am so darn tired all the time, at least I know that it isn't just because I am overweight!  I will be meeting with the people who are fitting me for the machine on Monday.  Thanks for all your widsom, it has made me feel as if I really should get the machine, because I was considering not getting (although I am pretty sure that since my boyfriend knows that I need it that he would strongly encourage me to get it).

When I was talking to the medical supply people they said somthing about an addition or option of the bi-pap machine being a humidifier.  So Sandy maybe you could look into that and see if your machine has that option.  It just might make it more comfortable for you...

Good luck!

I hope it does too, I know it can be real aggravating.  I am still just trying to get used to my mask, but i finally got the humidity set just right and not wake up with a wet face from it..

Remeber, just because they're out to get you, doesn't mean your not paranoid.

NO MATTER WHERE YOU GO, THERE YOU ARE.
