Topic: RE: sleep apnea with PH
I have PH and Sleep Apnea. They aren't sure if it was caused by the Apnea, because I also took Fen-Phen years ago. I have Left Diastolic Dysfunction, maybe from Apnea, or CHF, from the PH? All is under control now, with meds. I have to bleed 3L of O2 into my CPAP at night. I sure hope that all gets better after WLS. I also have Type 2 Diabetes, Fibromyalgia, and Inflammatory Arthritis.....and more. The Surgeon is aware of all of this, and is still doing the surgery. It's high risk, which scares me, because it's a Revision from a VBG in 1999, and has to be open. He told me it's a 65% complication rate and 5% morbidity. He also said to count on at least 8 days in the hospital. I've gone back and forth, but if I don't have surgery, I'm cutting my life anyway. I get my surgery date on 5/28. Is anyone out their in this position?

I owed it to myself to research the Duodenal Switch before consenting to any other weight loss surgery and so do you. Check out: DSFacts.com and DuodenalSwitch.com for more information.

I was a little bummed when I found I still needed the CPAP too. But we need to take one step and one day at a time. I went away this weekend and did not pack the CPAP, I was a little tired Sunday, I will have to remember to bring my machine with me. Maybe this surgery to tighten the palate will help. Have a nice week.

So glad to see your post, Linda. I now hover around a weight of 149, yet if I don't wear my CPAP (my way of testing to see whether I still had apnea) I wake up with a headache.
I saw a new ENT a few days ago and was told he feels it's an airway blockage caused by the palate and the back of the tongue. I'm having a repeat sleep study done next week (last one was done 5 years ago) but the doc expects that he will need to tighten my palate and back of my tongue if I want to be able to sleep w/out a CPAP.
I hope that I can do it, because I really would like to be rid of it! I was bummed to find out that weight loss didn't make the apnea go away!

Topic: More than just the CPAP
I've been having trouble getting restful sleep with my CPAP machine, which I've had for around 2-1/2 months now. I've been using it every night, and I've been awakened by allergy symptoms, for one thing. The sleep study doctor I saw today also suggested that my recently diagnosed hypothyroidism may be a contributing factor, as well. He will look up the results of my card insertions into the machine that the Praxair people had me mail back for two months in a row, to see what pressure my machine has.
I'm around 150 pounds overweight (morbidly obese), and I've had sleep apnea for years now. I cannot do without the machine, at this point. My symptoms are morning and early afternoon sleepiness, snoring, lack of sexual drive, etc. I am going to an allergy doctor on May 19th. I hope he can help me - I am so tired of feeling lousy in the morning and so tired, too. I feel groggy each morning now, and spit up alot of phlegm each morning, as well. The doctor recommended I use a nasal wash until I see the allergy doctor. Anything's worth a try.

Topic: RE: wet face
You are probably right. If I am stuffy with a cold or allergies I may use it. Other wise I don't. I haven't used it (the humidifier) for months now. I still get wet under where the mask rests on my face though. I guess I am just sensitive to it. As I said, I keep the deordorant in my nightstand drawer.
