What exactly are you worried about ... the cost? wearing it?
I would do some further checking. What type of WLS are you going for? My post-op instructions were to NOT use it after having Lap-Band. So getting one a couple months before surgery would have been a huge waste. I also haven't needed it since. I was on that CPAP machine for 5 years.
How far out from surgery are you? IMO - I would talk to your doctor about his post-op recommendations and use that info to help determine what to do.

It took me several nights of playing with my pillow to find a good way to sleep on my side. Same suggestion as the last .. fix the pillow so your face is still on it, but the mask is off the side. Worked for me for 5 years.

Topic: RE: STILL pulling it off!
It took me several months before I wasn't pulling it off in my sleep. I would wake up with it on top of my head. I guess I just got used to it and then I didn't have any problems with it for almost 5 years.
My post-op instructions after having the Lap-Band were to not use it for awhile, and I'm happy to say I haven't needed it since. I've been free of it for 7 months now.

Topic: RE: Lap Band and CPAP
It was in my post-op instructions to NOT use it after surgery because of the air it pushes into your abdomen. I was told it can damage the pouch created by the band especially when it was trying to heal.
I was very concerned about going without it. I asked the doc, "but what if I need it?" I was told that they would send me for another sleep test. I didn't need it. I stopped snoring, I stopped choking, I was actually sleeping, and I started dreaming again. I hadn't had a dream in years.
If it's causing any discomfort, I wouldn't use it until you can talk to your doctor.

Topic: Just found out I have sleep apnea
During my work up for WLS they asked me to have a sleep study. Guess what.. I have sleep apnea. He says it's moderate but severe during REM sleep. I can't believe it. Now they want me to get the CPAP.. I have two small children. How am I going to work this out..

I am so sorry for your loss. I know this is hard for your entire family, especially your parents. It is good that you were able to drive over. You must not live very far. I just wonder, did your brother have children. How old was he? I pray that God comforts all those affected by his death.

My number started out at 10. I've only lost 17 lbs so far so not sure if losing weight will get me off the CPAP. My dentist says that my tongue is too big. She had to redo a cap in the very back and my tongue is so thick she really had to work to keep it away from where she was working. when I told her I had been diagnosed with sleep apnea, she said - of course you do.
Also, had a cat scan done of my sinuses and there are many pollups. They told me this could be causing sleep apnea. they do not want to do surgery about them. so I'm thinking now it is possible I will always be on the cpap

I'm going to try everything possible to sleep on my side lol. I hope I get used to the machine like you have because it would be so nice to fall asleep, stay asleep, and wake up not tired.

I'm hoping I get to that point soon! I feel less rested than before! lol.

thanks for the tips. I have noticed that the mask might not be tight enough...it is when I lay on my back, but feels loose when I lay on my side. I'll try to keep adjusting it tonight.
I'm a side sleeper so it was rough. we'll see how tonight goes.
