Tonight will be my first night with my bipap(!) at home. My dd came with me to the class/fitting and got to see me put it on and off, feel the air pressure and so is fine with it all. That's a big relief for me. Now to get used to this thing. Might be better after I lose this cold. Blech!

i always knew there was more going on in my knees than meets the eye.  i hear them talking sometimes late at night when they think i'm sleeping.

I don't know how or if this fits in around your WLS plans, but there are outpatient surgeries now that can help with obstructive sleep apnea.  One, they insert a small plastic device in the top of your mouth which holds the tissue up and away from your throat when you sleep.  Two, they go in and create scarring inside the tissue of your throat which likewise contracts and keeps your throat from closing when you sleep.  Both are outpatient procedures.

I have had no luck with CPAP at all.  The mask is always askew and i get no sealed pressure.  I've been through so many masks it's not even funny.  nose masks, face masks, large masks, small masks... If i were not looking into WLS i would be getting one of those surgeries.  my surgical team is concerned about the apnea and asked me to try again with it, but didn't make my surgery contingent on a successful outcome, thank god.  they said i may have to spend an extra night in the hospital though b/c the anaesthesia and pain meds can depress your respiration and apnea adds additional risk of stopping breathing while you are sleeping (like, permanently) so they want to keep me under observation.

The cpap machine is not as big and scary as you might think for your kids though.  it was actually pretty small and pretty quiet.  they aren't like the used to be even a few years ago.

Wow! I was told the exact opposite by my doctor. In my pre-op visit, I was told to make sure I bring my CPAP with me to surgery and to wear it, even when napping, not just sleeping. In fact, I woke up with my CPAP on after surgery, because my 02 stats were down so low and my CPAP is the only thing that would bring them up to a safer level. From the way they explained it to me, it was very important to make sure the lungs were expanding properly and the CPAP helps in doing that.

My sleep apnea is gone...yaay!
I have a remstar series M with humidifier and nasal cannula, extra filters, nice carry case, flannel hose cover (so you don't freeze)  only 571 hours on it.  Here is some info:

We invite you to experience the special features of the new M Series Sleep System starting with the small and sleek design that has true consumer appeal. The patient-friendly functions include lighted touch controls for on/off, ramp and C-Flex, and a covered LCD display and controls for advanced reporting and setup.

The redesigned humidification chamber features a new easy-turn dial for easy adjustment in the dark, and a new “hidden" water chamber that is easier to remove, fill and replace.

I need to get this sold, as I'm moving and broke.  Surgery co-pays can hit deep!!!
please PM me if you are interested.

That is so great you are seeing a difference.  I hope I get the same results.  I am so tired all the time and I am ready for a change.  I should get my machine next week.  I am sorry your insurance has been such a pain.  I am lucky that right now.. before July 1 I have pretty good insurance.

Last night my husband Mike had a sleep study, and the nurse woke him up at 1:00 a.m. and put a CPAP machine on him.  They told him he was only getting 70% oxygen when he slept.  I just knew he had it, even though I've never heard him stop breathing.  He snores alot, and I've heard him breathing sometimes like he's gasping for air.  Now the results will go to his doctor, who will probably order a CPAP machine for him, which I know our insurance will pay for.  I'm so relieved that he finally got a sleep study.

My surgeon wouldn't even consider surgery until I had a CPAP machine.  It took me TWO years to get my extended medical to cover the damn thing.  I have had it for five days and already notice a difference.  I actually want to go to bed at night because I wake up feeling rested and relaxed instead of stressed and tired with a headache.
I am now going to complete a second sleep study so that the surgeon can see the difference and will give me a date to go ahead with surgery.

I have my mask and I have let both boys hold it and see what it was like.  They seem to be ok with it now.  We will see after I get the machine next week.

I'm newly diagnosed too. I have a 3 year old and I'm not sure how'll she react to me wearing it every night. I took pictures at the sleep studies so she could she why mommy stayed overnight at the hospital and see all the wires and the mask. The mask seemed to make her uneasy. I'm truly worried her running to my room in the middle of the night because of a nightmare and then see me and freak out.
