I use the Breeze nasal mask instead of the face mask.  It works better for me.  Also, I'm a mouth breather so I use an ace bandage to keep my mouth closed at night.  The combination of the two keeps me sleeping a full 8 hours.

I have RNY and my surgeon and hospital both told me I HAD to bring my CPAP machine and use it.  I've read that some people having lap band are told not to use it, but never RNY.  What kind of surgery are you having?

Congrats on him finding out what the issue was.  Some insurance companies only pay a certain amount for DME.  You may want to check to see how much will be covered.  My first insurance had a copay of $300.00 for mine.  My second one was covered 100% because I now have 2 insurance plans.

Definitely start the CPAP.  It will inflate your lungs, not your stomach.  When your lungs deflate at night that can cause pneumonia which is something we need to be careful about for 21 days after surgery.

It took me a LONG time not to pull it off either.  You'll get used to sleeping with it over time.  After you sleep really good for a few nights in a row you will be craving the thing.

Topic: just found I have osa and preop question
I did a sleep study last weekend and the nurse just called to give me my results. She said that I stopped breathing 46 times in an hour and that my oxygen went down to 77%. They want me to start on a cpap right away. But I am not sure I should as I am going to meet my surgeon on the 20th of June and I am getting mixed messages about starting the cpap before surgery.

Anyone??

I'm not gonna lie...it was a rough night. I think I got less sleep than usual. I think all total I had the mask on for around 4 hours...but that was sprinkled throughout the night. Its gonna take some getting used to...to be sure.

I am glad she did well.  I think my DSs will too =)
I was wondering how hard it was when you are congested.  I am always congested!

Thanks.  I know all that is scary!  I did ok with the nose mask.  I didn't pull it off and I kept a good seal all night.  I think the real key is keeping your mouth closed.  I could really tell when I opened it.  I should have my machine next week so we will see if I continue to do well.
