Please help...CPAP cleaning question
I was recently diagnosed with Sleep Apnea and just got my CPAP machine. My questions are about cleaning the mask, etc. I have the one that straps on to my head and just covers my nose.
It says to wipe it off every day after use. Can I use baby wipes for this? Another booklet says to wa**** off every day with mild detergent. Then the technician that gave me the machine says to wa**** with water and vinegar. Some say every day, some say once a week. Also, online at cpapman.com I saw a spray that you can use to clean the mask with. Has anyone tried something like that?
I guess my question is.....how do you keep your CPAP mask clean?
Also, do you leave your unit plugged in or unplug it after using it at night? Just wondering.
Thanks in advance for all your help!
I wash the plastic portion of my mask pretty much each day. I use a little soap and rinse well with warm water - a quick shake and put back together. It air drys. I don't think I would use the "baby wipe" - - just because of the smell and residue. I've been using mine for about 9 months. I generally keep it plugged in, but routinely clean the humidifier portion as well by giving it a good rinsing and allowing to air dry. I use the vinegar and water every week or two - - I was compulsive about cleaning it a lot more when I first started. You will find a routine that works for you.
Hi, Your local DME (medical supplier) should have a spray cleaner available for washing your cpap mask and tubing. I use one called Citrus II and it's awesome. It runs about $8 a bottle. I bought mine several months ago and still have half a bottle. It won't discolor your mask. It has a light citrus smell to it but you won't smell it on the mask. Once you start using it, You won't want to use regular soap again!
