I was just dianosed with moderate to severe sleep apnea and I was wondering if I can still be aproved for wls without getting the CPAP machine? My paperwork goes in this week.

I had similar feelings at first but I felt so much better after getting the machine I couldn't believe it. Certainly, having the diagnosis of sleep apnea doesn't hurt when trying to lobby for insurance coverage. If your case is like that of many of us, surgery doesn't happen overnight. Better to get the machine and feel better than trying to wait for the surgery and subsequent weight loss to resolve the sleep apnea. Besides, your surgeon may question your readiness for weight loss surgery if you are hesitant to do things that benefit your health. Get the machine - you'll feel better for it! Michael

Sharon, I too fought the diagnosis and the machine. However, after surgery the machine was definitely needed in the recovery room. I'm now 3 mos out and finding that I will probably be off the machine in a few months. It needs to have the pressure turned down now. After I got used to the machine I definitely slept better.
