Does having sleep apena and using a CPAP automatically put you in ICU after surgery?

Hi Alan, I had RNY on Dec. 7th, 2004 and was told to bring my CPAP machine with me to the Hospital. When I checked in they took the machine and had it calibrated and tested to make sure it was working properly. After surgery when I got into my room the CPAP was in the room. I had to set it up and fill it with water myself, but I was not in ICU. Actually, I haven't been able to use the machine throughout the night since ther surgery. I take it off after I fall asleep. My doctor has had the pressure lowered and feels I probably no longer suffer from sleep apnea. He is going to schedule another sleep study to confirm this. So.. NO... you won't automatically end up in ICU. Good Luck!

Never went to ICU and I had my cpap machine and never had to use it while in the hospital. I am now off my machine all together. Donna 338/235 -103
