I have a Respironics CPAP machine with humidifier, that I got on 2/8/05. The mask they gave me is a Fisher & Paykel, the system is set on 14 (whatever that means),the problems I am experiencing are: Cold droplets of water dripping under the mask (wakes me up) Feeling of suffication when beginning treatment (already use a ramp system), and awaking during the night, which causes me to rip of the mask. I like to sleep on my side and can't with this mask, it makes a high pitched hissing noise or blows air straight in my eyes. I am tired of sleeping on my back. Is this a mask problem, or just something I need to get over? Any suggestions would be helpful. Rhonda

I couldn't get used to the water droplets in the mask. They woke me up every night, and I didn't have the humidifier on at all. I was ripping the mask off in the middle of the night every night because I just couldn't stand it. I got a new mask with the nasal pillows and it's a dream! I can sleep in any position (I'm a side sleeper too) and it stays put and I sleep so well. No more water droplets either! I had the air leaking out with the old mask, too, but that doesn't happen with this one. Good luck! Mary Ellen

Rhonda, Try the nasal pillows. I have this type of mask and the same machine as you but my pressure is higher. I sleep on my stomache or side and I am claustrophobic and the full face masks make me panic. In fact I had a panic attack at the sleep study when they told me I had to use the full face mask. Needless to say, they changed me to the nasal pillow. I just passed the two year mark with my machine and I don't leave home without it. I do not use the ramp up at night, I start off with the full pressure. Basically, you just have to find what works for you. Lise

Thanks so much for the advice, I took everyones suggestion and changed to the nasal pillows; so much better than the mask. I don't feel so claustrophobic, but have to really think about my breathing when I first place the headgear on. I can now sleep on my side and am in heaven! I don't use the ramp feature either as it makes me feel like I am not getting enough air. Maybe if I started the ramp at around 8 instead of 4, it might be a little better. The only problem I am having is a little nose irritation. Any suggestions? Rhonda
