I have had sleep apnea for 4 years now and have not been able to sleep even once without my mask. How many people have had WLS and been able to get off CPAP? If so were you retested to be sure you were ok without the CPAP?

I'm a lap bander, and I've seen several that say that they've been able to get off of their c-paps. I would assume that if your apnea is caused by your weight, then losing the weight would take care of the problem. However, if it's caused by something else, then it wouldn't. It made me feel a little better that the night I had my 2nd study, that there was a skinny, healthy looking man there with apnea. I would always recommend getting retested. ERyn

Loretta, Prior to my WLS I was 330# and had a setting of 15 on my c-pap. I was retested last month when I reached 260# and they reduced my settings to 6, which is a hugh reduction. Dr tells me if I lose another 20#'s I may be totally off the c-pap. There are approx 30 other people in our Dr's office who were on c-paps at one time and have lost enough weight that they have been taken off. So there is hope. Good Luck
