My Doctor told me that having weight lose surgery is risky because of my sleep apnea, has anyone else experienced this?

That's strange, because I've only heard the opposite.

from my understanding it is only risky if you have it and was not diagnosed I mean if doctors know what to watch for and how to treat it I have central, obstructive, and mixed apneas and I am confident my surgeon will take great care of me

It is fine if you be sure and tell your anesthesia about the problem. Take your own cpap machine and have them tag it. Be sure the machine STAYS WITH YOU the entire time and they put it on you the minute you are in recovery and all the way through to your room. I had same deal. I did the above and all worked out well. good luck

Just be sure the drs know about it and make sure that you take your own to hospital. Hve a family member check for it as soon as they see you and say something to the drs if you don't have it on. good luck
