Hi I need some help. I was told sleep apnea could be a major cause of weight gain. Is this true? Has anyone lost weight after using the mask? Thank you.

Apnea is a horrible medical condition and can definitely contribute to weight gain, amongst other things. The thing with apnea is weight LOSS will reduce the apnea. Wearing a cpap controls the number of nightly episodes.  I recently went through WLS to reduce my extreme apnea. Cpap and previous surgery did not work for me. Hope my sleeve works! Lmk if any questions.

I have been using a CPAP for 6 years, and I think I will be getting rid of it soon.  I have had to drop the pressure by 5psi over the last few weeks because it keeps blowing out of my mouth, no matter how tight I put the chin strap on.  It is now set at 9.5 psi, and I plan on asking for another sleep study in the next few weeks to see if I still need it at all.  I have lost a little over 40lbs since starting the pre-op diet, and I am 3 weeks post op now.  I should be in Onderland in 2-3 weeks.

My doc said to try sleeping without and monitor my weight, headaches, and Blood pressure.  If they are all ok then he said I probably don't need the CPAP anymore.  Really hoping he's right.  I started out at 13psi and have to wear a full face mask because I breathe through my mouth.  I've tried pillows and nasal masks - they are awful for me.  Now, my issue is that I cannot find a mask that will seal over nose and mouth properly.  My specialist has even special ordered masks for me and they won't seal.  So, tonight for the first time in nearly a year I'm going to try sleeping without.
