Second Sleep Study Tomorrow

Hello all! I am new to all of this. I had my first sleep study and they called me in less than 2 weeks to schedule another with just a few electric hook ups and the CPap machine. Does this generally mean that I have sleep apnea? The instant she found out that I had to go for another, she told me that I might as well accept that I have it now if they called me in to study me on the machine.

I am mildly claustrophobic. When I was in the hospital for surgery at 16 years old I could NOT breathe under one of those full face masks when I was awake. Are these machines like that? I have to admit that I'm a bit nervous about the whole thing. It's kind of got me freaked out. Any suggestions/knowledge would be appreciated

At my sleep center they gave me lots of different masks to try on.  Mine just goes over my nose and has an air cushion so it fits fairly comfortable.

My biggest problem was with the hose....  I just don't like it touching me so I figured out how to put it behind my head between the wall and my pillows.  I just give myself enough room to roll side to side and I don't even notice it.

I am about 8 mths of being properly diagnosed with SA and using a CPAP has changed my life.  I no longer doze and I hardly take naps.  If you do have SA then you don't mind wearing the CPAP because you will feel so much better in the morning.

GOOD Luck!

You might call and ask the nurses what your results were in my experience the sleep techs can't tell you anything.

they can't put you on a machine unless you have reached the diagnostic criteria of x number of episodes an hour. If they put you on a machine, you have OSA

Apparently I do have a mild caseof OSA. I can't remember what they said exactly about the numbers but "normal" is 5 and I'm a 7. I actually slept really well that night even though all of those wires were attached to me. During my first study I barely slept at all.

Hi Nicole,  Welcome to this great website and forum.  I am new to this forum as I just got the results of my second sleep study.  I knew I snored a lot and loudly but found out today that I have 'severe SA'..Wow!  The doctor said I stopped breathing 54 times in an hour, that is unbelieveable.  I wake up easily in the morning and don't feel like I've had a rough night at all and only get a little tired late in the day before supper.  So it was a bit of a shock.  I used the nasal machine as I didn't want my mouth to be covered.  It is a little weird at first because you need to keep your mouth shut or the air flow gets messed up and you feel like you're swallowing air but I found that if I took relaxed, slower breaths it was fine.  Breathing out at first seemed strange as you are pushing against the air flow.  Right now I'm at the point that if I need it then I need it and WILL get used to it.  He said if I continued like this I could have a heart attack or stroke within a year.  So I'm all for a CPAP machine, going on Wednesday to pick one up.  Good luck to you with your next sleepover.
