Sleep Apnea... Pouch Blow Up?????

I'm one month out and my Surgeon told me that if I remain on my sleep apnea machine the pressure could blow up my pouch. I freaked out naturally and immediately stopped using my machine. which is very concerning to me... I'm afraid I will die in my sleep, if I don't use it. I'm afraid I'll blow up my pouch if I do. My doctor told me it is a controversial subject.... but, was fine with me going off my machine... I was set on a 12. I'm freaked out and don't know what to think.

I think I will re-post this and see what others think... I'm concerned

I'm glad you posted this as I've been wondering when do you know you can stop?  I'm only set on 7 but it should probably be higher as I've gained over the past 5 years of using it.  I'll be so glad to get rid of that appendage...

I posted this on the main board also and they are thinking I'm crazy... but I found this on google.

Okay... I felt the same way you do... I really did think this Doctor is freaking crazy, and so did my husband. But... I just found this also when I googled "cpap pressure to much air in pouch"
go here and check this out...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ov1PmtXvXFg

So I'm not crazy.... others are wondering the same thing... This makes me feel better, I will go to my neurologist and see if what I can do to tested regularly... It's very hard to sleep without my cpap when I've had it for so long... it becomes part of you.

Thanks guys

 my pressure is 14.4

I have not had any issues but I am also vsg. My doc did not say anything about it at all.
Things vary from doctor to doctor, you may want to contact the sleep specialist and see what they have to say.

good luck, keep us updated.

Both my surgeon and my pulmonologist want me to take my CPap machine to the hospital and use it, even right after surgery.  You should be breathing through your nose, in which case the air goes into your lungs, not your stomach.  the CPap machine keeps me from breathing through my mouth which is when you draw air into your stomach.

P.S.  Youtube is certainly not where I would go for medical information.

I am sorry if you took offense.  I do not offer a medical response or reason, only what I am told by my surgeon and pulmonologist.  I would not expect anyone to take anything I might say as Medical Advice, only an opinion given the information I have.

No offense taken... But, I am curious, who said I was taking medical advice from You tube???? Did you actually read this post? I was wondering if any one had heard of it. I wouldn't go off my mask because someone on you tube did... and I never stated that. Plus... this is an old post... I already spoke with the Doctors I needed to.

I used my cpap while in the hospital for a week. I continue to use it. If you have apnea and don't use it, could be setting yourself up for issues down the line. Sleep is healing.

1 mos post op I had an auto pap trial for a week and went from a 12 to 7. I'm thinking its about time to have it checked again being 8mos post op
