any advice?
DH uses a CPAP machine, has done for about two years now. It has definitely helped him feel more awake and healthier during the day. This is with him for life - it is not weight related as he is not overweight. He has a few issues and I told him to go on line but, typical man!, he doesn't like to discuss his problems with people!
He uses a mask that covers both nose and mouth as he has chronic catarrh and the nose only ones just don't work for him as he mainly breathes through his mouth.
He HATES it, but then most CPAP users probably do! But the problem is he keeps on waking up feeling that he is suffocating. He isn't, it is more like a form of claustrophobia.
Any suggestions? Any masks better than any others? He can try any mask as we have the national health service and he can just go to the clinic and get a different one.

Cindy, thanks so much for the suggestion. Unfortunately for Dh, his problem is that he has chronic catarrh and so breathing through his nose is just really difficult. But I will pass this on to him. Kate

Are you sure his pressure is accurate or his mask fits good? They only time I feel like I'm suffocating is if my mask loses suction and I therefore have an episode and stop breathing. I also sleep with my mouth open and need a nose/mouth mask, the nasal one was worthless. THey do offer a mouth sling to keep it closed, but I felt like my head was in a vice when wearing it.
