During my recent roun-y surgery I stoppd breathing 3x.  I had a sleep study a few months ago and the MD said it was negative.  Now my bariatric surgeon, says I do have sleep apnea and that is why I stopped breathing.  I ended up in the hospital for 10 days.  What do you people think about this?

It doesn't make any sense at all. You had an endotracheal tube so can't get obstructive sleep apnea.  If you were really deeply anesthetized, or over ventilated, you could lose your respiratory drive, but it's likely due to the drugs you were given to anesthetize you.

hmmm, Jesse, thanks for your comment.  I am unsure of exactly what happened, as my bariatric surgeon is being very vague.  I believe that he doesn't want to involve my sleep study MD.  It upsets me that MUM is the word !!
Thx for the comment tho  :)

Perhaps get a copy of anesthesiologist's report from the surgery?

I agree w/ fat cat, You can't have an obstruction  when you are intubated, it just can't happen.
During surgery , you have a tube placed into your lungs that comes out your mouth.

It is impossible to have an "airway obstruction" (which is what sleep apnea is) under these cir****tances.

I am going to be having roux en y surgery and I just got my results from the sleep lab the doctor says I have moderate sleep apnea , I am concerned this might hold up my surgery, I think it's a big crock cause the sleep doctor wants me spend all this money to get help and in the next breath he says I could be cured of it when I lose weight, so should I spend the money on the machine or wait untill after I lose the weight to see if I no longer have sleep apnea. I just don't want it to hold up my procedure.
