(Posted this on the RNY board a couple days ago, Thought it would be good to cross post this)

Alright awhile back I had posted here and on the cpap forum about my problemm with the extremely dry mouth. Found out that the pressure was too high right after surgery. Amazing!  And what was happening was the pressure was just forcing my mouth open.

I'm now 7 weeks post op, about 63 pounds down since surgery 70 total and just ran a week with an auto pap at home.  My pressure is now at a 7 where as before it was at 12.

So you new post ops with CPAPS.  Think your having issues, contact your DME provider, they should let you do an auto pap trial at home, typically for free, they fax the order to your doc, the doc signs it and away you go  zzzzzz.

Couldn't find my orginal post, so i thought I'd just go ahead and add a new one.

Thanks for the info!  I am concerned about cpap and pressure.  Only 3 days postop.

for me even in the hospital I was waking up with the extremely dry mouth.  I think the pressure issue changed for me drastically and quickly.

I went from a 12 and now I'm set at a 7 and thats with an auto pap trial for a week showing that was where I needed to be.

Good luck, and keep on top of the cpap thing.  Won't loose weight if you don't get good rest.

well having surgery you WILL loose weight - but it would be even better if your sleep is on target too

Thanks SO much for this info. This past week I too have been waking up with my mouth as dry as a desert, my lips often feeling pushed up like air bubbles are bursting out of me and the cpap air pressure through my nose feels like a tornado.  I'm told I no longer snore when falling asleep in front of the TV, sitting up, so I'm sure my cpap machine is on its way out but not yet as I still snore lying down.  What is a DME provider?

You can have sleep apnea with out snoring. Snoring is not an indicator of sleep apnea just so you know.

DME durable medical equipment.

So contact your doctor or respiratory therapist to see about running an autopap trial at home, then you can find out if you need to have your pressure lowered.

Good luck,
