Post Surgery C-Pap Changes

When did you know that it was time to adjust or remove your C-Pap? Did you go back for another sleep study? Did you have symptoms? What kind?

It feels like mine is too strong now - and I notice that I have started opening my mouth after 6 years on the C-Pap, but I am also having a lot of day-time sleepiness now - much more that I have ever had since originally getting my C-Pap.

I am a little over three months post surgery and have lost 65 lbs.  Do I need to talk to my doctor about another sleep study or wait a few months.

My doctor recommended that every time I lose 10% of my body weight, that I have another sleep study to make any changes in my CPAP levels. Diana

Just a little info. It is important that you use your cpap. I know you now this,  my Dr wanted to up my pressure and I told her that when she does I take it off halfway through the night. So she said that she would lower it  and make me comfortable. She would rather see me using it all night at a lower pressure then not at all,  these darn machine are a real headache.... but they are give us a better nights sleep. If your still sleepy in the day time your probably not getting enough sleep at night. The mouth breathing is a sure sign that your not getting the right pressure, because your using your mouth to breath. Well I got a little over board Hooper this helps..doodlesll

You guys must be reading my mind.  I was going to pose the same question today.  I'm 3 1/2 months out and loss 54 lbs.  I too think my cpap setting is too high for me now.  My sleep doctor did request that I have another sleep study test in Sept, so, I think I'll phone and book something, so that I can get back to sleeping well again.

WOW WEE -

I have been going bonkers here lately with the lack of sleep.  I have come home from the hospital with issues with my mouth coming open while sleeping. I keep waking up with the worlds driest dessert for a mouth.  So much so there is nothing to swallow.  My lack of sleep is really slowing down my recovery.

I'm one month post op and have lost 44 pounds. Thats more than 10% of my starting weight.  But I was this way before I came home from the hospital.  I called the respiratory therapist and they said, well try banding your head to keep your mouth from flopping open. UM< not working here.  Said once I get that figured out then maybe see about running an auto pap for a week or two to see where I need to set my levels. I guess I need to get an order for that.  I'm not doing a sleep study, I know I have apnea!!!   Last year i did a two week trial and found out I was at a 9 and raelly needed a 12.  Right now I backed it down to a 9 and I think I need lower. Hmm.. Might be best to test it out.

Glad I looked on this board

My doc didn't have me go in for another study - after I went in to see him he gave standing orders to lower the pressure 2 points every time I called, and sadi that after I got the pressure to 6 I should try a few nights without the C-pap to see if I snored - if not then I could discontinue use.  Cool - can't wait for that

Might want to see if you can try a CPAP with auto set.  That is what I have had from the beginning, it works well. I never have problems with dry mouth unless the humidity in the air changes then I just turn up my humidifier and all is good.  Now that I have been reading some of the boards here I am really glad that I have an auto ajust CPAP.  Good luck to you all in finding what works best for you.
God Bless!

I had a similar experience and was just taken off my CPAP machine (in fact, I just posted about this). Tell your doctor and he will order a sleep study to see where you are at.  It's possible you no longer require the machine and that your SA is gone!

Yippeeeeeeee!

I just had my pressure lowered on my CPAP today. I am almost one month out and I started having problems with mine last week.I would wake up with my mouth so dry or stuck shut and my husband said I was snoring, and my mouth was open.
I was told that my mouth was coming open due to a too high pressure.I went from an 8 to a 6, Im heading to bed soon so hopefully I can sleep tonight,I cant wait to be rid of my CPAP but I have gotten so use to the noise of it I can not sleep in a quite room.. I have had a fan running the last few nights so that I could sleep. My Dr. said she will see me in 3 months to see if I need another sleep study.I suggest getting it adjusted  ASAP so you can get some sleep and feel rested.
