hiya , im 3 1/2 ,months post op. i have severe sleep apnea but im afraid to use my cpap because of possible damage to my pouch. has anybody had that problem, or has anyones dr given instruction to use postop? ive had soooooooooo many awfull complications since surg that im afraid to add another...thanks guys
I have severe apnea too and have a setting of 11 cm water. I talked to my pulmonist about this just a few days ago. He stated the CPAP will not hurt the pouch because the air has an opening to leave the pouch just like food and liquids do.
With severe apnea the weigth loss may not eliminate the sleep apnea. Mine is actually worse as the structures relax with the weight loss. I went from 93 episodes to 120 episodes per hour. Desaturated down to 74% oxygen (should be in the 90's) during my most recent study.
Call and talk to your Pulmonist about your fears. Remember untreated sleep apnea is dangerous, increases the risk of heart attack, stroke, and sudden death.
