Very tired with my cpap!

Hiya everyone!

So, I am 3 1/2 months out and I have lost 72 pounds since surgery and 87 all together.
I had a terrible sinus infection so I couldn't use my cpap (on setting 11) while I was sick. But, I felt fine without it--I almost think I felt less tired without the machine. With it,I had a hard time waking up and felt tired. So, this makes no sense.

I thought maybe I didn't need it anymore, so my PCP ordered an overnight O2 sensor test which showed that my levels did drop a bit during the night--he mentioned to 80 something, 87, I think.

So, I am wondering if anybody had this problem--feeling tired with the machine. I still have lots of weight to lose--but I have made some decent progress. I'm just confused and I'm not wanting another sleep study--yuck!

Thanks for reading and thanks for any input you may have!
Hugs,
Heather

I have a cpap and it leaves me tired. My doctor is tryign a medicine to wake me up more during the day. I hope this works. Today is my first day on the medicine and I feel fine. No real side affects so far.

I lost 50lb and they redid the sleep study but found I still had a big problem. I have had a hard time sleeping when I have the mask on. I sleep very lightly so I do not feel rested in the morning.

Hi!

Thanks for responding! Do you know what the name of your new medicine is? I'd like to ask my doc about it. Of course, I really don't want to take ANOTHER pill! I thought thr cpap was supposed to help with the tiredness....grrrr

Anyway, thanks for your input!

My husband does great with his. He won't sleep without it now. But for some people it works differant.  They have lowered my pressure from 12 all the way to 5 to try to make it more usable for me. I don't have the medicine here at work. I will let you know what it is. So far today I feel great and I was up a lot last night. We will see how it works as the day goes on. It is only 10:30 here.

The medicine is Provigil C IV (Modafinil) 200Mg Tablets
I was awake til nearly 2 in the morning. Hope it goes a little better tonight. The upside Is I kept the mask on, and my mouth did not dry out. I feel really good today as well. I got so much done at home last night. Ususally I am dead when I get home, but I was awake and really on track! wow!

hELLO Stockton neighbor. WAs that med Provigil? I tried that a few years ago, mainly used for narcolepsy, but it did not work for me. My pressure is on 16.5, but if I remember how to do it, I may up it. It was at 20 before gastric bypass and even got lowered to 10, but I was extremely tired at 10 so now I am just so-so tired.  Now that I have gained weight back, I think I need to up it till after my May 19th duodenal switch surgery.

Yes it is Provigil. It has been a wonder drug for me.  I am not dragging around all day. I am nearly out of the samples now and my insurance does not want to cover it. I hope it gets taken care of. I don't know how much it would be to just buy it every month.
Glad you have a surgery date. It is so hard waiting.

Complexities and cumbersome features of present day CPAPs is an issue of concern indeed. But the times are a changin. New researches are underway and there is a new ray of hope to have customised cpap with extended features very soon. Read for more details in an interesting article at sleep apnea disorder digest.

Hi Heather, since using a C-Pap machine for almost 12 years, I have never really felt rested. I am hoping that in having the DS (duodenal switch) WLS, I can get rid of my apnea once and for all.  My only consolation is that I am alive. It hurts though when I hear people pounce on me because I say I am tired. WTH. Yeah buddy, try living with this diagnosis. I hope you get to that spot soon where you do not feel tired.

I had a sleep study done on January 10-11, 2009.  After around 7-1/2 hours of sleeping with the CPAP, which the nurse there put on too tight, I felt so great that I cleaned alot the next day, and wanted to repeat that wonderful experience at home.  But I've had nothing but frustration, tiredness, and depression with the home CPAP experience.  I've had it two months, and haven't been able to come close to what I had on the sleep study.  I've had two types of masks, so far, and both have given me problems, from scarring the bridge of my nose, to nightly leakage from the nostril insertion type.  What's a person with severe sleep apnea to do!?
