...and then she said" Renee, you stop breathing 30 times an hour"

Oh my gosh.  I was so miserable before getting my CPAP.  In the 2-3 years prior to being diagnosed I could not stay awake at all!  I was in grad school at the time and it's one of my biggest regrets.  By the time I had my sleep study, I had already had one minor car accident.  I had nearly killed myself driving numerous other times.  I was young and I chalk all that up to stubborn stupidity.

I stopped breathing 132 times per hour at my first sleep study.  I had oxygen sats at around 76% and I only had about 5 minutes of REM sleep the whole night.  No wonder I couldn't stay awake anywhere!  I know I am blessed to be alive today.

I hope one day to be rid of the CPAP, but I kind of have my doubts about that.  Once I was diagnosed, my mom and I were talking and the whole picture really became clear.  I probably had it even as a child.  In the meantime, I'd rather look like a scuba diver in bed than be the walking dead.

I could barely stay awake during the day.  I would fall asleep doing things, watching tv, listening to someone talk. yes....right in the middle of a conversation. All I wanted to do was sleep!!. I was told I stopped breathing 111 times in one hour. I use the cpap now and I have gotten used to it but some nights I just don't want that thing on my face. My sleep is better as I used to fall asleep on and off through out the day but at night I would wake up quite often. Now I sleep for a good 5-7 hours a night trying to work it up to 8 hours. I have had this for years. I was tested years ago , used the cpap for a few weeks and gave up for a few years till I was sleeping more than being awake during the day.  I hope that WLS takes care of this.
