Good Morning and Happy Holidays!

I am worried about something. I have had sleep apnea for about 5 years. My pressure is at 14. I had roux en y on sept 10, 2008 and have lost 58 pounds since surgery. I now weigh 256. A lot of times at night i get full feelings in my pouch and it wakes me up. I have to sit up and move around in order to belch. sometimes over and over before I get relief. I am wanting to know if my cpap could be inflating my pouch and causing it to stretch. I am trying to begin to sleep without the cpap but i have used it for so long I have had difficulty breaking that habit. I did successfully sleep without it last night but I had to take half a sleeping pill. And I had no problem with fullness during the night. I am just worried about the size of my pouch and my cpap inflating it like a balloon. Should I be concerned?

Congradulations on your weight loss!! You should go back to your sleep physician and get reevaluated. 5yrs ago you were at a different weight and you needed that 14cm setting. Whats happening is your lungs are filling and the excess is going to your stomach. They will send you for another sleep study to see if you still have apnea and if you dont you wont need the machine.. If you do then you will have another titration study to reevaluate your setting. More than likely your pressure will be lower causing you to sleep comfortably again. When you lose another 50lbs go back for another sleep study to see if you still have it. Remember apnea is caused by some type of obstruction or partial blockage in your airway whether is excess weight or oral/nasal structure. The more you lose weight the more likely it will take this problem away if weight is the reason of your sleep apnea.

I had to have a reevaluation as I was always belching when I put on the cpap machine. I had a bipap setting of 17 in and 11 out. I felt that I was getting too much air in my system. My sleep physician said that she recommends a reevaluation at fifty pounds loss.
I am down to less than 23 incidences but still need a cpap setting at 6. I went from 102 to 23!
I am no longer in danger should I fall asleep on the couch or sleepover a friend's home.

I do always plan on bringing my cpap with me, though. I have used one since August 04.

I have my RNY in a little over a month and have worn a CPAP for about 10 years.  I belch every morning because of air being pushed into my stomnach at night.  It's common.
