sleep apnea and weight loss
Its not a weight thing, my old boss at work had the worse apnea possible, even had apnea surgery. He was about 6`3 and 145lbs, I think our is weight related, but Im just trying to show you thats not the only reason. You can beat this, and more than likely with wls it will go away. I wish the best for you..

When I first got my CPAP I hated it too and it was hard to sleep through the night while using it. I was tired at first too. It does take a while to get used to it.
I can tell you though, that once I did get used to it, I noticed how much better I felt in the morning, and really through the rest of the day.
Sleep apnea can make weight loss difficult, and it can cause you to gain weight because it messes with some of the hormones that regulate hunger and satiety. So using a CPAP can help with weight loss. Also, apnea isn't healthy so using a mask is important for health.

What you are describing is similar to how I felt to the first few weeks. I know that it can be very annoying--you aren' alone!
Just keep plugging at it. It will help you feel better (eventually) and also help your hunger hormones get back to normal (apnea messes with them).
Maybe try different masks, or ask for a prescription for sleeping pills to help you get to sleep while you're still getting used to the CPAP.

From about the second or third post I was thinking about what to say while being diplomatic. I agree with you I hate it, but I want to live. I wore my mask, with all the irritants and never missed a night. I had trouble and just kept at it, I never took it off. You MUST learn to relax and let it do its job. My dad and sister both have to wear one. I know my other sister has it but won't get tested because she thinks it is embarrassing. I told her the exact same thing I am about to say on here.
So do not wear it and die. Why do you want to have a wl surgery? Normally to get healthier, if you can get a wl surgery to get healthier then wear the damn mask and get over it. Is it more humiliating wearing a mask when you sleep or having people carrying your fat ass in the coffin?
I do not mind flamers and angry people responding to me because I have used a cpap for years and now use a bi-pap, my BMI was 92 in October 2008 and now 4 months later it is still over 60. But I wear the damn mask nightly, even if I just lay down for a nap in the afternoon and I have done exactly what my surgeon has told me to do as far as the wl surgery and I have lost over 180 lbs in 20 weeks. People ask how and I simply say, "I don't cheat and I follow simple directions."
They tell me I have will power and they aren't that strong. My response to them is always the same, "Bull****! I weighed 570LBS, had a BMI of 92, I had very poor eating habits, drank several soda's daily, several coffee's daily and ate rich, carb heavy foods daily and I chewed tobacco since high school. When they said all this must sto***** surgery I said OK, I quit."
It is your choice, you either follow simple instructions or you don't. You simply must just do it or die. Enough said, I hope.

I no longer need my cpap. But when I got it took time to adjust to then I could not sleep without it. I started by wearing it for as many hours as I could as time went on it got easier and easier, It took me awhile to stop using it because I was so attached to the machine. It is important that you use it. Good Luck
Hi,
I've had sleep apnea for years. I was first diagnosed in 2004. I wore the mask for about a month and gave up. I went again for a sleep study at the end of last year and got another machine and again used it for a few weeks on and off and gave up. WELL..........I just took a stress test and was told that I have some muscle weakness of the heart and that it shows an old heart attack. I remember one night last November feeling pains across my back into my left arm but I attributed it to gas and indigestion. I am at the end of my pre op tests and tomorrow I go for the cardiac consult to see what exactly I need to do. I am praying that this does not disqualify me for the rny surgery. I would think it would be one more reason why it is necessary but who knows what they are going to say. I can say one thing ...I am going to start using that cpap whether I like it or not. I want to live and hearing this from the pa on the phone freaked me out last night.
I'm sharing this so you can see how important it is to wear it. By the way I stop breathing 111 times in an hour. You'd think hearing that alone would have made me wear it.
Good luck and wear your mask!!!!!!!!!!!!
