Should I go back for the second part

Hi, I have been told by my regular Dr. that my sleep study results show that I do indeed have sleep apnea and should be on the CPAP machine. However, I am not scheduled for a 2nd (spend the night adventure) for a few weeks. I asked my surgeon if I had to have this part done before surgery and he said no. Just have it noted that I do indeed have sleep apnea. So my question is...would you postpone the followup for the CPAP, if it wasn't required for surgery?????

Personally, I would not postpone it. I would definitely go. Maybe it'll actually rule-out the first diagnosis of sleep apnea. Or, maybe you really DO need some attention for this and the second one will help define what needs to be done to help you out. Good Luck!

My Dr. said I had to use my cpap machine for a solid 2 weeks prior to my surgery. So, I had the test (part 1) got the diagnoses and then went back (part 2) for the titration study which is where they find out what pressure setting is most effective for you. now i have my machine. Is isn'tt that bad, by the way. Fairly small and quiet. i got the pillow nostil mask which is not claustriphobic and it has a little humidfior and is very quiet and comes apart for travel so you can just transport the small part. very nice.

Sleep apnea shouldn't be taken lightly. I was told by my nephrologyst that it can eventually damage your heart muscle from the lack of oxygen in your blood. Plus in my case I almost ended up in a car crash from lack of sleep and nodding off at the wheel. Since using the CPAP my kidney function had got enough improvement that I no longer need a transplant and can keep my own parts. So in my opinion I would go for the 2nd and use it if needed you might just be suprised at the outcome.

I have moderate OSA. My surgeon requires that all patients with OSA be compliant with using their CPAP or BiPAP machines; otherwise, he will refuse to do the surgery. I had my overnite first sleep study without a CPAP machine; however, there was not enough sleep data to determine if one was needed. The NP at the sleep medicine clinic recommended that I go to the second one with a CPAP machine that was provided by the sleep lab. I went for it and there was enough sleep data to determine that I have moderate OSA and need a CPAP machine. I got my brand-new CPAP machine yesterday and used it for the first time last nite. I didn't sleep very well last nite, but I am not as tired as I should be without the machine. If it were up to me, I would get the CPAP machine and then go for the followup sleep study.

I would go back considering how dangerous it could be. I had the first part done on the 25th and now i am still waiting for the results. I go on the 21st to have my results read. i am praying I don't need the machine and maybe that will speed things up for me. That is all i need before it will be submitted to the insurance. They told me i would need to be on machine 2 weeks before surgery if it is proven I need one.
