Problems with post nasal drip and CPAP
I don't know if anyone else has had this problem - if so - what did you do to help correct the problem?
I had the sleep study done - and according to my sleep study - I wake up over 100 times/hour. This is AFTER I had the tonsil-uvula-softpalate-ectomy done! I get a CPAP machine - and the nose mask (which I prefer over the face mask) - but I have this problem. I have post nasal drip that builds up in the back of my throat - then dries from the mask (AND I have the humidifier type of mask!!!) THEN I wake up choking! The post nasal drip stuff is blocking all routes to my lungs!
The sleep study doctor told me to stop using the mas****il I see an allergist to get my allergies sorted out. I see the allergist - am put on an extra strong dose of Allegra and Astelin and STILL have post nasal drip. BTW - I choke from my post nasal drip during the day, too.
I've just been to another Ear, Nose & Throat specialist. He saw the post nasal drip and ulcers in my nose.He also said all of the stuff in my nose are swollen and asked if I'd ever taken inhaled steroids (I said yes - I am on Advair for my asthma - and have tried Nasacort, Rhinocort - and all the others with no relief.) He put me on antibiotics and has scheduled me for a CT Scan of my sinuses (scheduled for the 20th).
SO - I'm waiting...and it's causing me to be nervous...and I'm a nervous eater (and I'm eating healthier - but still eating more than usual.)
ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED - on either
---and experience you've had with post nasal drip, OR
---any experience you've had to manage nervous eating.
THANK YOU!!!!
I have been on allergy drops and hadn't been getting post-nasal drip for months. However, I've been on the C-Pap for a week, and the back of the throat nasal drainage has made it difficult to sleep, especially on my side. I hate to have to take other allergy medicine in addition to my immune therapy drops, but I may have no choice.
Hi, I actually have the same problem, though yours sounds more severe. I have had post nasal drip and allergies for a long time now. My primary care doc only prescribed nasacort, i saw an ENT and she prescribed allegra. I am starting the allegra today unsure if any of this is going to help me get used to that darn cpap machine. Most of my days are fatigued, sometimes I have to stay home from work to try and get some rest. Thanks for your post because I am considering the tonsil and adenoid removal for some relief with this problem. Even though doctors i have spoke with all say it is a 50/50 chance of some relief. Good luck to you!
